Well, i've been searching for a used TL to buy and after reading about all the stuff about the tranny problem, Im now kinda scared. But i love the way it looks so it makes it hard to not consider it. Well, with that said, i found a 99TL w/navi w/115k miles. The owner said that she had the tranny replaced once in early '05 and had a second tranny replaced (i guess with the upgraded tranny) a few weeks ago all from warranty at the dealer. She is saying that she never had the tranny die on her, but the dealer offered to change it for her because of the "recall". Do you guys think that it's now alittle safer to buy it cuz of the upgraded tranny or should i just stay away? thanks guys.

 

I'd stay away. Dealers aren't even allowed to change a transmission purely as a precaution if it shows no sign of failure.

 

There is no recall on the tranny. They will only replace it if it fails within 7yrs/100k.

 

thanks for the input guys....actually the car is a 2000, not a 99. anyways...I love the way the TL looks and its kinda hard to pass up, but i think i might take your advice and pass on it.
