Should I buy an 02 TL

Should I buy an 02 TL
I am currently looking to purchase a new ride. I really like the look of the TL, but have heard some bad things about the transmissions. Is the pain of the transmissions really worth me purchasing one of these cars.

I also debated on getting my 2002 TL type s after I read about all the tranny problems. But although after 2 wks of getting it I had to bring it to the dealer to get a new tranny, I don't regret the purchase. The TL is an awesome and fun machine to drive. I find every chance to go somewhere so that I can drive. I'd go for it, just make sure that the tranny has the oil jet kit installed if not bring it to your local dealer and have it done. It will be worth the wait.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but if you're looking at keeping the car for the long term (>100K miles), then I wouldn't get an '02 TLS.
I have 76K miles on my '02 TLS, and I'm on my 3rd transmission. Some people on this forum are on their 4th. As far as peace of mind is concerned, I'm afraid to take my car on road trips for fear of a breakdown in the middle of nowhere.
I love the way my car rides, drives, and looks, but I hate that feeling of insecurity.
Go for a certified pre-owned Lexus of Infiniti--preferably one made AND assembled in Japan.

Ok so we have two different opinions. I checked consumer digest about the car and it is listed as one of their top pics, based on many other things such as reliability. I can't believe it. What a nice car and to have it screwed up by poor craftmanship of a transmission.

My car has gone through 2 trannies already- one before I bought it, and one after I bought it. It will probably go again, but I love my car so much that it just doesn't seem to bother me anymore. Keep in mind that Acura is replacing the transmissions, and that each tranny has a 12K miles replaced parts warranty so it is possible for your warranty to be extended past 100K. Mine goes up at 106,2XX miles. After 100K miles, you also have the option of having a rebuilt transmission, a couple of guys on the board have looked into this or had it installed. Many other car companies have not gone through recalls like this one that Acura is doing, and other manufacturers do not reimburse the customers for transmission repairs either.
While I'm sure that there are more reliable cars on the market, I don't think that the transmission problems should keep you from buying a car that you love.
