if you have used the search and looked in the diy and thread list and cant find an answer- then posting a new question is fine.
Check the DIY section for removing the shifter cover
Read the owner book on chacking trans fluid level-
basically drive 15 minutes cruise speed on freeway- get off freeway and park on a `safe level parking area`
Shut OFF the engine and pull the trans dipstick- wipe clean and insert-remove and read- should be betwen the dots, and not smell burnt

its all electronic below the stick- if you are looking for something causing the shifter to stick- like a cable
Just 3 microswitches located under the shifter (way under)
Dont spill soda or water in the center console or shifter area-it can leak down and kill a microswitch
only 45 bucks each but 1-2 hours getting to them!!

It helps to give the year-model-if type S and current mileage when posting questions.
Also if you have a replaced transmission or any recent work,,, then a problem started.
that helps us diagnose too, thanks

there is a system to help warm the engine that holds 1st and 2nd gear slightly longer-higher rpm and shifts rough for a few minutes
As soon as temp starts to show that should stop
Its to help warm the engine and exhaust cat quickly,, so the car can switch to lean fuel mode -start mode uses a lot of fuel
