I went to sunoco the other night becuase they ran out of gas everywhere else, I read that it contains about 10% ethonol, I got a bit scared as I was fueling up my Tl with this, I read somewhere here that ethonol isnt good for out cars. Btw...I used V-Power everytime i fill up.

From what I understand. It isnt so much "bad" for your car. It's just going to lower your gas mileage. Unfortunatly, where I live, every station within 45 minutes or so has ethonol added.

IDK why, but when I fill up with V-power, I get really bad gas mileage....If I use anything else (even Sunoco) I get like 2-3 MPG more on the MID.

But what is the real life mileage based on fuel consumed for distance traveled?
not the MID predictions

V power all the way..all the time. Since moving to ATL, there are Shell's everywhere!! I love it! Plus, back in Colorado, the highest Octane is 91, here it is 93..probably due to altitude or something.

I have not seen Costco on the Tier 1 supplier list- you can search online for comapnies that qualify
If you must run costco- run a good additive with it to keep the engine internals clean

I used all brands of gas and I dont notice any difference. BUT I do notice my car is more responsive when it is cold out, due to a more dense air.

I have been using Chevron in all of my cars for about 10 years now. Before then, I was using Arco until one day it wouldn't take my debit card. I got annoyed and drove my '86 Accord to Chevron at the other end of the block. I filled the tank and within a few miles it was like night and day! No more rough idle and I also had way smoother acceleration! Needless to say I don't use that Arco garbage anymore.

With my TL the idle gets horrible and the car will not start unless I run Shell. My mom used to put 89 in it, which is the mid-grade here, but since I've been driving it I've been using V-Power 91.

Shell gas mixed with ethenol, which has more oxygen in it, thus running shell gas will feel smoother running, but performance wise you are losing some and less mpg compare to cheveron.

There is a sticker at my local Shell station.
Regular contains up to 10% ethanol
The middle grade contains up to 5% ethanol
V-Power contains NO ethanol.

I alternate between V-Power and Esso 91. To be unbias, although I collect Esso reward points, V-Power does a more punch to it. Car also rides smoother and quieter on VPower

MY car always responds better to Shell gas. The seat of the pants feel is there for me, not in my head. It seems a lot of others feel the same.

Quote from loulinjai: There is a sticker at my local Shell station. Regular contains up to 10% ethanol. The middle grade contains up to 5% ethanol. V-Power contains NO ethanol. Interesting that this old post from 2004 should pop up again. I too noticed the sticker on the pump at my Shell station regarding the ethanol content of the various Shell grades. Notice that premium (91 octane) contains zero, zip, nil, nada ethanol. 91 octane is the ONLY grade we all should be using in our TL's. Sunoco has up to 10% ethanol. "They" used to tell us that ethanol softened the neoprene gaskets in fuel pumps and injectors etc. {Who the hell are these "they" people anyway? }. JC

I was not aware of the NO ethanol in V-Power, so if it has no ethanol, it will get better milage for sure. Guess I have to change over...

i've used shell for the past 15 years on all my cars and have never had any issues. people will always say "gas is gas" but i beg to differ. i've only used other gas because i was out of town and there wasn't a shell nearby. i would say shell has become my staple and it's been great so far.

Don't get too excited about it, that idiot in the white house passed legislation that ALL gas must contain at least 10% ethanol by 2012 or something like that.

Isn't ethanol supposed to help gas mileage? I thought thats what the big hype was surrounding it as an alternative fuel. I don't think its cost efficient by itself however, but when mixed with gasoline its supposed to make it cleaner burning and maybe increase the MPG a notch?

anyone running off brand gas should run some seafoam thru the tank and intake vac line
A clean engine inside gets better mileage

It burns much cleaner but offers decreased mileage because there is less potential energy in ethanol when compared to gasoline. So you get less mileage, but release fewer hydrocarbons while doing it.
