Shaking & Vibration

My car stops great with no shaking when cold or warm but when the brakes get hot like slowing hard from 60 I get a bad vibration in the car and the steering wheel shakes from side to side. It only does this after being on the highway or such. The car still stops good though. would Meineke mufflers be a good place to get my brakes done? I cant install rotors myself. Could it be something other than rotors making the wheek shake from side to side? Why only when they are hot...I would think if they were warped the steering wheel would woble all the time.

sorry for the long post to get to the point...yawn!

Its probably your rotors being warped due to excessive heat. If you're lucky, they can just turn them down...otherwise, you might have to have them replaced. Normally, warped rotors come from one of two things (or both)...either your lug bolts are over torqued (too tight) or you're riding the brake too much.

I should have mentioned the shaking was much worse since I got may car aligned at Firestone so lug tightness could have made it worse?

Rotors are warped. Just take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Most dealers will resurface the rotors and change your front pads. It is covered under warranty if your car is still under warranty.

I had this problem and just got it fixed, so I know exactly what you're talkign about.
