Service Manual Help for O2 Sensor

Could anyone with a service manual help out with the correct wiring order for the front o2 sensor. My wife ran over a lawnmower bag that was in the road which un plugged the front o2 sensor. Well the check engine light came on, but she drove the car for the rest of the day. Unfortunatly that wore the connector down to the wires and now I can't tell which wire goes where. Acura wants $180.00 for a new o2 sensor (compared to $25.00 for a GM) but the sensor is fine, I just need to reconnect the wires. Any help here would be greatly appriciated.

Sorry but it may not be that easy to find in the service manual. The wiring colors and pin designation appears on page 23-4 of the Electrical Troublshooting manual. There are 2 O2 sensors on the car. The one on the left side of the car (when you are standing at the front with the hood open, its to your right side) is the Primary sensor. The wiring colors and pin numbers are indicated (its a 4 pin connector) but it does not show which pin in the connector coresponds to pin 1, 2, 3 or 4.

What i can tell you is that the white wire is pin 1, black/yellow is pin 4, black is pin 3 and green is pin 2. This is all useless though without knowing what the orientation on the connector these pins are. The connector is in a tough spot to get at from above and behind the engine, as you already know.

To answer your question, someone's gonna have to go look at their connector.

One other queston though. From where it appears to be located on the car, I am not at all sure how the wire could have been dangling down under the car and rubbing on the ground. Are you sure its the O2 sensor wires? That cable would sure have to have a lot of slack to be hanging down that much....

I just came up with a solution. If you locate the other sensor which is on the right side you can tell what the positions are of the 4 pins by matching up the wires that go to that plug. They are the following:
Pin 1 is Green/Yellow (green/black on the 1999)
Pin 2 is White/Red
Pin 3 is Black/White
Pin 4 is Black/Yellow

Note that these are the colors of the wires that come from the car and not the wires that are on the pigtail on the O2 plug side of the connector.

If the plug did not fall off the O2 sensor, your job is even easier because I can tell you which wires from the car connect up to the pigtail connector coming off the O2 sensor.

for the Primary sensor, the Black on the O2 sensor goes to the Black/yellow from the car; the White on the O2 sensor goes to the White from the car; the Black from the O2 sensor goes to the Black/White on the car; and the Green on the O2 sensor goes to the Green/Yellow (or green/black for the '99) from the car.

For the Secondary sensor, all the above is the same color match except for Pin 2 the White on the O2 sensor goes to the White/Red from the car.
