Why is the real question? You can swap a 3.5L with no mods from the MDX to the TL and get a 3.5L Type-S Engine in the Future which will obliterate the stock engine in the 3G TL-p and give the 3G TL-S a run for its money..

The 3G TL used the infamous Headers cast into Heads which is a kick in the nuts for performance.

..is a kick in the nuts a positive thing .?

If you're going to pull the engine and this is your project car then I'd say just go with the MDX 3.5. And if you're feeling lucky then while the engine's out I'd stroke it to 3.7, I think that's what fsttyms1 did, and what I plan to do if things work out.
