Seafoam on sale

Figured since many around here love the Seafoam I'd make sure you all saw that it's on sale at O'Reilly Auto Parts - buy 2, get 1 free. Regular price is $9.99/16 oz. can so the sale price is $6.67. I don't know how much you all pay at Wal-mart these days (I refuse to go there) but this is the best price I've seen lately - I'm stocking up!

Here's a link to the current ad (valid through 5/24):

congrats!!! noobs to seafoam repeat gas and vac port methods in a month or so then good for a year
do both methods and clean the TB air plate too

reminder: cleaning dose for gas is 2 oz per gal fuel or 1 (16oz) can to just under half tank gas 8 gallons

ck www.seafoamsales.com for more info on methods availabe to use- a mix of them seems to work best
our diy doesnt have the 2000 rpm method that seafoam does--it works awesome!

those ready for an oil change add 1/2 can and drive 30 minutes or more.
change when fluid is warm

yea i did the vac port and gas method today. although i put in 1 can at low fuel light. still blew smoke like a motha***** cause once i floored it into vtec there was a huge smoke blast and the cars behind me looked scared. then a few hard runs after that it smoked out some more but not for much longer. i also had no problem starting it up it didnt struggle (bad?) after 15 mins after seafoam which was weird and my CEL popped up and is still on.

Im guessing you totally ignored the diy?

add some fuel NOW-just under half tank- more fuel with correct seafoam % will yield better result than overdose in gas and shorter amount of run time
heat and time are seafoams friend

smoke doesnt come from gas method--only vac port since its high concentration of oils hitting the cat and making smoke..its not an indication of dirt or clean--just method of application, amount if residual still in the intake, and heat in exhaust

cel will self clear in a day or two as the O2 sensor cleans itself off

please read the directions here or on seafoams site for max results for your dollars spent
and avoid problems- cel light etc

I have added fuel to the tank already im at a full tank now. I really misread when i did this on the gas tank part (dont know how) just wondering if it makes that much of a difference that i poured the whole can in at low fuel light. Should i do it again or just wait?

It shouldn't hurt anything - but you didn't get your money's worth. Besides the fact that you didn't run it through for very long (1/2 tank vs. near empty before fill-up) according to 01tl4tl Seafoam says anything over 2oz/gal doesn't really increase the cleaning power. If it were me I'd wait until just under a half tank on your current fill-up and throw another can in and then do it again after another 1000 miles or so. Chalk up the first can to Seafoam noobiness ...

its there you just have to dig a bit -ck the carb section and different engine listings

after adding some at above idle,,hold rpm at 2000 and add product as engine is able to process it
smoke will be heavy!!!
do that 2 minutes then back to above idle method
repeat 2000 rpm method for another 1-2 minutes
that blast out loosened crud in a hurry!

from low light to full tank with one can???--now you are at midyear maitenance dose 1 oz per gallon

drive that out and refill to just under half = 8 gal (tank holds 17.3)
add 1 can seafoam and run down 20 miles past low light
Now you got your moneys worth!

note seafoam also says less than 3/4 oz per gal fuel is inefficient

Ok lol see i just noticed that i was reading the seafoam DIY and it was the posts from 08 lol. Fail. Thats why i thought it was ok to put it in my gas at low fuel light. Looks like i need to do it right the next time i do it. Ill do the gas method again though soon i go through gas like nothing (commuting everyday ftl) so just to make sure one final time when i put the can in at just under half a tank i then drive the car until it gets 20 miles past the low fuel light?

noobs to seafoam should repeat gas and vac methods after a month,, then good for a year /15kmiles

yes drive this tank out like normal with its basic maitenance treatment doseage

next tank, when down to just under half, throw in 1 can
I am suggesting run past the low light by ~1 gallon,,that leaves 1.5 useable reserve.
just to get the max effect from every gallon for the most time

BUT
you can refill at low light or whatever you want to do
anything close to the directions will work! and beats not doing it at all

the 2nd time vac port method,, and/or thru TB throat with deep creep or spray bottle with seafoam/ homemade deep creep, you can really tell you have the feel for it and smoke happens during install etc,,,

get the TB air plate on both sides and edges clean
lube throttle return springs at TB

I may be partly involved in that misinformation from 08, accidentally called a can 8 ounces -not the correct 16-- and things went crazy after that with 1/4 1/2 tank yadayada

I helped a friend of mine seafoam his 03 TLS with 165k last weekend. When I drove the car after sucking the seafoam into the engine and letting it sit for 10 min, it was pinging like crazy and it was extremely loud. Whenever it pinged, I just let off the gas. Initially we were both sh1tting our pants thinking that something was seriously wrong, but after a few miles, the engine was back to normal. I seafoamed my 99 TL a few times before and it never made that sound.

At one point, I made a turn onto a small street and when I accelerated, the engine pinged a lot and a huge amount of smoke came out the back (normal, I know). The funny part was there were two guys (probably 25 or so) on the street by a parked car and all we heard was "ooohh sh1t!! that car is fuked!" .

Do you think this damaged the engine in anyway? The CEL came on every now and then, but it went away after a few miles. He's been driving the car ever since with no problems (knock on wood).

So I went to O'Reilly today to pick up a bunch of Seafoam and noticed that the Cheveron Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner is on sale as well - buy one, get one free. I picked up two bottles, one for the TL and one for the MDX. I figure what the hell, it can't hurt and it may get some shit the Seafoam leaves behind.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I'm just going to follow the directions - pour bottle in near empty tank before refilling with up to 12 gallons (figure I'll go 8-10 to get better cleaning power).

its decent stuff when used over time--repeatedly
seafoam isnt missing anything techron will find

Black TL--you missed the diy?
after restarting engine = you let it run just above idle till it will rev to 2000 cleanly
then start driving in low gears 2000 rpm a few minutes until revs easily to 4000
now blast around at 4000 rpm for 5 -10 minutes with some vtec blast and back down- not to exceed 5000 rpm yet.

all the pinging was seafoam mix with fuel was high concentration left in the plenums, normally that evens out before driving!
CEL is from improper afterdrive left crud buildup on sensor- it will self clear with a few days driving

Just did my seafoam yesterday. Decent amount of smoke came out but I was surprised since the car does has 169k on it.

We'll see how my MPGs and drive-ability improve within the next 2 weeks.

smoke is a function of heat in the cat and the oils that make up seafoam reacting to that heat as the molecules pass thru.
Note seafoam is actually cleaning the O2 sensor and cat - not harming them

while many instant results are there with vac port,
run a can thru half a tank of gas- to clean the injectors and fuel system--thats really important now that you have clean combustion area--
well mixed fuel/air in hot burning cylinder = more complete combustion = better mileage

noobs to seafoam repeat gas and vac port in a month then good for a year
Your install procedure will be much improved the 2nd time,,expect more smoke!!
use DEEP CREEP (seafoam aerosol) to clean TB air plate (carb cleaner is ok too)

people forget that, and it controls the `air on demand` of throttle.

remember to lube the throttle return springs while you have the cover off

improves pedal response to input
high miles go ahead and disconnect cables and lube fully inside them

note: IF you have more than 70kmiles on the current spark plugs- you may want to replace them after foam- so everything is at its peak performance for your mpg gains

seafoam doesnt ruin plugs, but if 100kmiles on them now- they may get loaded/fouled during a weak effort at afterdrive blowout
at 100 they are due anyway,, so you probably foamed in order to prep the engine= right!?!

Its all good i figured it out eventually haha. But once the can is in the tank under half are you supposed to run it hard like when you put it in through the vac port?

Or just like 4k rpm runs in 3rd gear continuously until you run it past the low fuel light? Just trying to get an idea of the exact method down because ive read so many things and different variations and times and runs and stuff.

thru the fuel prefers a longer time per drive use..if you do 30+ minute commutes for example- that will be great
it likes heat and time. softens and `liquifies` carbon and fuel crud buildup=
then blows it thru the engine burn phase

you can play if you want~
run it up higher rpm before shift or run around in 3rd,
but driving normal will also get results--no reason to burn extra fuel
