Seafoam Explosion!

Ok so I tried the new seafoam method through the TB. And damn the notice in vacuum pressure is nuts! But with increased pressure comes increased chances of stalling. But when I did get it to stall out there was a huge rush of pressure back into the seafoam can. It went EVERYWHERE! Including all over my face and eyes, I thought i was gonna go blind! But I didnt, thank god!

Did I backfire? Car runs fine now, but that worried me. When i came back to car after washin my face i saw smoke comming out of the seafoam can...

That's weird, I did the seafoam a few days ago using the new method and I didn't experience anything like that. I don't see how you could get pressure coming back into the can like that.

When you have the engine cover off to do seafoam= the throttle assembly is right there- use it to keep the engine running!!!!
That vac port pulls about 20 inches at idle and 25 at slight rev, so having the engine stop from non cumbustible mix hitting the cylinders could result in some funkiness- that only notdave could experience
But it must have taken a real effort to pull that one off!

raise the can onto the hose- sip sip- remove- wait- raise can- sip sip- remove- wait.....

this is also the first time with the correct port
It takes a liitle practice to keep your hand off the top of the can opening or otherwise you create a locked airspace- that can crushing effect~

keep engine revved slightly to prevent disaster

Goggles look funny but when your doing stuff like that it may not be a bad idea. I once got a rusty shard of metal undoing a nut on an old sink drain.

I guess a revised DIY is in order again, with things like- wear safety glasses or goggles when working with hi-detergent oils, carb cleaner/TB spray etc.
Wear latex/rubber gloves too if you want- If under 18- dont breathe the vapors from the can, look left right left before crossing the street, dont suck the can flat from vac line pressure....

new member here. long time integra driver now switched to a TL-S.

Read the MANY sea foam posts from most of the threads (just found this one) and didn't find it too hard to do. Poured the sea foam into a clear bottle and did the 'sip' method of induction. about half way through - my vac line gave off positive pressure and exploded the remaining sea foam similar to 'itsnotdave' in my face , engine, garage... everywhere and the remaining 1/4 sea foam in the bottle turned black.

Not sure how to go about to do it differently and not have it explode. Might try to get the 'fuel bottle' from a hobby shop as suggested from 'Juliet'.

This is a lesson learned for everyone i guess: Wear goggles... or at least a pair of sunglasses or something. lol

Cant wait to get my TL-S 6MT back to seafoam it.

I do not understand how you guys had a problem
Ignore all the other old post- use ONLY the vac port AT the throttle body (top of intake manifold where it meets the TB on Gen3)
It is direct port- with 20+ inches of vac at idle
you attach a 1/4 inch ID hose to it and place can and hose together
with engine at idle- raise the can onto the hose- or push the hose a 1/8 of an inch into the can- just enough to make it SIP a 1 to 2 second amount of seafoam.
let engine stabilize and repeat over and over- the slower the better
You only need to use small amount of throttle to keep engine running- thats IF you are putting seafoam in too fast- otherwise just let it idle
slow slow and even Gen3 with flybywire throttle can be done without assistance
sip sip- wait sip sip wait
Use of any vac hose going only to the rear of the intake manifold (past diy instructions) is not the right place- that only gets 3 of the cyls.
USE the vac port with a hose clamp on its connection to the manifold or TB- thats the first clue its a good place- a hose clamp!!!!

If you tried the black pipe that goes to the valve cover- no wonder it blew back on you
Some of the pics in the threads are bad advice

I didnt use the black pipe that went into the valve cover. I use the nipple sticking out of the TB where the rubber hose bends around the TB, the one pictured in the new thread about seafoaming TL-S's. Anyway I chalk it up to sticking the hose too far into the can. I was doing it with my hoodshocks blown so I had to prop the hood up with my shoulder, pretty uncomfortable situation holding the can, the hose, the hood, and the throttle, at the same time.

I think everyone is sucking the Seafoam in too quickly... keep in mind if done right, it will take 3-7 minutes to induce all of it into the engine manifold... if it goes in to quickly the engine will stall and backpressure will result... use caution when doing this...

Went with the most recent DIY posted by 'indoMFP' and used the TB vac line. The suction was strong so i was letting it pull the sea foam in while i kept the hose above the liquid. May have gone too fast and didn't let the engine recover. It kept wanting to die and i would tap the throttle cable to not allow it.
Might try again later and be sure to pause after each sip.

You are not the only person. I had the same problem this afternoon when I was "seafoam"-ing my TL. I poured the Seafoam into a clear container and bought an extra hose to connect to the vac port. I was letting the engine sucked little by little as the engine was stalling. It was working fine until my cell phone rang in my pocket and ruined my concentration. I did not remember what I did. I either dipped the hose too much or I sticked out too much. The engine "backfired" and sprayed the Seafoam to the left fender, left front door and almost the entire engine. I got sprayed at well on my face but luckily I was wearing glasses. I was so pissed and now I did not know how much Seafoam has gone into the engine. As far as I know, I still have about 1/2 can left inside the clear container. The car run fine but the "backfire" also ejected out another vac tube below from the throttle body. The car was idling bad until later tonight I heard a loud air sucking sound and found the tube was dangling. Soon I plugged it back in, the car was idling properly.

Advice for the who has not done it. USE SPRAY CAN !!!. You could get it from OSH or Home Depot for $2-3.
