Safe to buy 02 TL 104k Miles, no transmission problems??

I'm looking at buying an 02 TL with 104k miles. I called the 1-800 acura # and gave them the VIN and they stated it had never had a rebulit transmission. Will this car be a safe buy?

Thanks

get good will

you can probably get a good will for the tranny and you'll be fine, especially if you pick up the car for cheap

what are you paying for the car? I bought my '02 tl-s in may for $12,500 with 86,000 miles. I just had the tranny replaced under warranty at 96,537. I would use the fact that it's high mileage and beyond the tranny warranty to try to get a good deal. The fact that it has no tranny problems now, doesn't mean that it won't have any problems tomorrow or next week or maybe next month!

Im about to buy it at $10k. I also noticed that I need to change the timing belt too at the 105k mark, not too sure about it now......

I would not but it. If Acura gives you one courtesy replacement what will you do after that? Mine is a 2002 and the avg life of the transmission has been 30K miles

when you test drive it see how smoothe the tranny is. I would start fast and then let off the gas, then try punching it at cruising speed. Another trick is to try the sport shift. Mine shifts harshly in manual, where my roomates 01 CLS is very smothe. I bought the car with the intension of having the tranny replaced before 100k. If the tranny feels solid you have a good chance. If you find it jerky then walk away.

My family has replaced 2 trannys and had problems with a third and we still have 2 Acuras and 2 Hondas. They are good cars except for this one problem, and Acura is pretty good about honoring the issue. Also, I am sure that you can find another TL in your area with fewer miles, but maybe not in your price range.
