saber inspire? huh?

Hey people.. I have been wondering.. what is the tl called in japan. I have heard so many people call it the accord inspire, and other people call it the saber. What is it. Im confused, because both ways i look for info. they come up with JDM TL pics.

In Japan for the '99-'03 TLs the equivalent is called the Honda Inspire and Honda Saber. There's both. The difference is that the Inspire is closer to the TL as we know it while the Saber I believe has a 4 cyl. engine option and it also has a different interior with cloth seats and stuff.

You can get JDM stuff from importers who get the stuff from Japan. A company like Value Caraudio sells the stuff, although they're sometimes unreliable with shipping on time. If you do a search for JDM on this board, I'm sure you'll find other links to stores that sell it.

In '04, the Honda Inspire becomes the USDM Honda Accord, but it gets some sweet enhancements like the keyless car starting that the Prius and some Lexus cars have, it has intelligent cruise control, and cylinder management where 3 cylinders turn off when you're cruising on the highway to save gas.

japan and it's usdm equivalent
1) accord inspire - vigor
2) inspire - 1st and 2nd gen tl, 7th gen accord
3) saber - 1st and 2nd gen tl (with 4 cyl engine instead or was euro market car)

the 3rd gen tl is not sold in japan, hence the 7th gen accord taking the name over.

cl does not exist in the jdm.

usdm tsx is the new euro accord.

Sorry Astro ...

I think LiQiCE & StanMan are correct. Inspire = V6 TL, Saber = 4 cyl TL. No CL over in Japan ... (North American exclusive). But the current JDM Inspire is the USDM Accord.

There is no CL in JDM. Paul has the saber grill, why would that fit on a TL if the CL is the Saber.

Inspire is very similar to the TL. Differences are Cloth interior, Bumper with fog lights, Different badging, Driver seat on right side, stock rims, side markers etc.

The Saber is a JDM exclusive. It is basically a cheaper/lower class version of the Inspire. The main difference is the 2.5L I4 engine instead of the V6, the Grill, and Stock Rims.

Now comes the confusing parts.

USDM 04 TSX = JDM/Eurp. Accord
USDM 03-04 Accord = JDM Inspire (Saber is discont.)
USDM 04 TL = Does not Exist in Japan.

2.5L I4 VTEC. Produces 200HP. It does look like a V6 to me too, I'm going by the specs my friend from Russia gave me. I know the HP and Liters of the engine are right.

Can't find much in English, but this should clear things up a little.

Now that I took a closer look at the pictures I posted, it is a V6. I guess the Saber uses a lower displacement V6 Engine.

Saber = V6 2.5L VTEC = 200HP

I don't think that's true guys.

I know there are SABER 25V (2.5 liter) & 32V (3.2 liter) model available in Japan, same as INSPIRE 25V & 32V. And they're both V6 according to honda.co.jp specifications.

They called UA4 for 25V model & UA5 for 32V model. Correct me if I am wrong.

So you're saying that the Saber and Inspire both can have 2.5L and 3.2L engine Paul? Then what would be the difference other then name, grill, and badging? Hell I'm confused about the difference b/t the Saber and Inspire. I'm glad the JDM no longer has a Saber because it's freaken confusing!!!!!!!!!!

TL name started with the 96 TL (replaces the Acura Vigor).

The First Gen were 96-98 TLs (It had a 5 cyc. model and later a 3.2L V6 model).

The best seller came with the 99-03 TL (2nd Gen).

We'll see how the 3rd Gen TL (04+) will do, so far they are selling great.

Jap might never see the 04 TL, but there are lots of car from Jap that the USDM doesn't see either. It's a corp. decision, each car has a targeted market and which sectior it wants to sell in.

My god, the dfiference between the Saber and Inspire is

1) The grill 2) The Alloy wheels 3) The badging 4) Inspire has the clear rear turn sig/Saber has the (stock 99-01 TL) yellow turn sig.

Can't believe it's because they have more then one dealer selling it.

i think this should be correct now...

japan's honda accord inspire is the US acura vigor (92-94).

japan's first honda inspire was the US 1st gen acura tl from 96-98 (i think, not too certain). it is also the US 2nd gen tl from 99-03. currently as of 04, japan's honda inspire is the US 7th gen honda accord.

japan's saber is also/only the US 2nd gen tl but with a 2.5 liter v6 engine instead of the 3.2. not sure if the saber name is still around.

the 3rd gen tl is a US market only vehicle (ie, not sold in japan at least) so no jdm parts for those jdm fanatics . but lots of euro accord stuff for tsx owners!!!

Let me make a list for yal.. this is acurate, so u can take it to the bank. Plus a link on the bottom to my source of info. As you all know there is no such thing as ACURA in Japan so here you go

U.S. Models..........................................Japan Models

Honda Accord......................................Honda Inspire
Acura RSX...........................................Hond a Integra
Acura RSX-S........................................Honda Integra-R
Acura TSX............................................Hon da Accord
Acura TL..............................................Ho nda Saber
Acura RL .............................................Honda Legend

Now the link below will give you the Japanese Honda Line Up.. the stuff is Japanese but some of the titles are in English so you can see what is what. Hope this is solves the confusion:

Saber name is discont after 04 Models, only the Inspire name lives on as the USDM Accord Chassie and Exteral style (engine and some interior changes).

This is what I picked up from the Japanese guy who posted.

The Saber does indeed have a 3.2L V6 225 HP or 2.5L V6 200 HP as Paul (Songoku) pointed out.

Saber and Inspire are the same car, only grill, badge, rim difference (that's really stupid) (both Inspire and Saber have 2.5L and 3.2L version)

The reason for having two name brand for the same car is because Jap has this weird 3 channel distributation dealers. Two of these distributation dealers get the car as the Honda Saber and One of them gets them as the Honda Inspire. Hence two names for the same thing. Glad the saber name is gone cuz that's pretty stupid.

I guess it's like how the old Dodge Caravan and the Plymonth Voyger were the same van but different grill and rims too.

Not to knock ya, but the RSX Type-S while being pretty close to the Integra Type-R are not the same. Honda usually treats the Type-S as a car with some horsepower increases and other minor tweaks while the Type-R moniker is usually reserved for more significant changes and generally is the 'sportiest' of all the versions of a car. The Integra Type-R in Japan gets a 220bhp version of the K20 motor and a few other upgrades other than the whale tail

The 2.5 V6 is a J series just like the 3.2 in the 99+ TL's. For a while, there was an Inline 5 engine offered.

Yeah, hzm82 is right. Saber are sold through "Verno" and Primo" dealers and "Clio" is the one selling inspire. It's all about marketing scheme. Now the saber is gone, all 3 distribution dealers are selling the NEW inspire.
