Rotor Questions
Hey guys....
So I had my car checked out n it looks like my rotors were warped. I had them turned and the car is back to normal. I have read a lot about the rotor problems on the TL and was thinking about investing in some after market rotors so that I won't have to keep turning my rotors too frequently.
I have looked around and want to buy either Brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors (the pattern that doesn't have too many hole in them) or the Rotora slotted rotors and was looking to get some opinions. I saw the Brembo ones on ebay for ~$250-270 shipped and I believe that I read somewhere that the Rotora's would be about the same. My question is...can these rotors (x-drilled/slotted) be turned by your average mechanic or will these require a special machine shop/tool?? Any other pointers would be awesome
.
Thanks

Burning Brakes
If you have the time to do some thread searching, you'll eventually come to the conclusion that many people have tried slotted & crossdrilled rotors and they have eventually warped too.
As for myself, I need to turn mine once a year; it's still cheaper than purchasing the fancy rotors.

If you don't drive hard there is no major benefit to slotted/xdrilled rotors. They become useful to dissipate heat faster when continuous hard braking is being applied on a regular basis but a lot of these companies that make an inexpensive xdrilled or slotted rotor aren't manufactured the best. If you are getting a big brake kit the rotors you receive will be a much higher quality because they are handling high heat and pressure from 4, 6, even 12 piston (yes that is correct, 12) calipers. Personally unless you feel the need for a big brake kit I would just buy some rotora blanks.
Slotted/xdrilled can be turned, yes, but from what I have read it isn't suggested.
