Rotating Tires

Rotating Tires
I went to a gas station for a tire rotation because that was all I needed and he switched the fronts with the backs. Is this how it's supposed to be done? I could have done that myself and saved 12 bucks. I thought it was supposed to go diagonal? Also, when he was rotating it, I told him my rear tire is losing air and he found a nail in it. It was a small leak and he charged 8 bucks to fix it. Does that sound right?
Thanks

I believe the manual shows back to front and front to back, which is definitely better than nothing. However, the pattern I have always used (on non-directional, same-sized tires) is fronts to back, and backs to opposite side fronts. This way all tires eventually occupy every spot and turn in both directions. I get great tread mileage this way.
As for the nail repair, I don't know if you have Town Fair Tire places near where you live but they will fix flat tires (punctures) for free, even if you didn't buy the tires there. I'm sure some other tire chains do the same thing. That being said, $8 is not unreasonable.

non-directionals go
left rear to right front. right rear to left front. both fronts drop to the back on the same side. make sure the tires are balanced with the proper weights, and your ride is aligned! kman
