The Rich Idiot's Guide to the 6-speed CL-S

Here's an article on the CL-S 6 speed written by the airhead auto editors at Forbes.com. Ignore the first two pages; they're about how cars always depreciate in value. Duh.

http://www.forbes.com/lifestyle/vehi.../0121test.html

From this article it seems that the CL-S 6MT could really use a set of firmer springs and a swaybar, but what else is new?

0-60 in 6.6, the auto Type S is faster than that. These guys either don't know how to drive or are making a$$es out of themselves for assuming. The 6 Speed with a good driver will get under 6 seconds 0-60 times. They gotta stop using that G Tech thing for their stats.

I had trouble figuring out if the article was about the CL or the Audi A4 3.0/BMW 330. It seemed to me that everything the CL did well the BMW or Audi did better, in their "unbiased" opinion.

It would seem that the CL does not have enough snob appeal. And that, I would guess, is where Forbes "informed" status comes from.

they're not professional drivers, so their opinion is inconsequential.

I'm not a pro driver either... bot those guys seemed like accountants... There are three people I hate in this world... Lawyers, salesman, and accountants.
The lawyer will sue you for wiping your arse sideways... the salesman will rip you off... the accountant will yell at you for buying a 90 cent pen for a buck.

That's funny because my family has a lawyer friend, a salesman friend, and an accountant friend.
The lawyer represents my dad but still gives my family free legal advice, and he pops in to my parents' store to say hello whenever he's in the area.
The salesman owns a Jag/M-B/BMW/Land Rover dealership in Windsor and he's a really nice guy. He actually called his family to come and eat with us when he bought us dinner after signing the lease for my dad's Jag.
And the accountant also stops by the store to say hello....and has had dinner with us lots of times.

Bigman, you forgot the most important thing...

They actually wrote "0-60mph in 6.6 seconds (est.)"

It sounds like they never really measured it.

The most interesting thing from my point of view is that it actually dropped 1 mpg on the highway (to 28). Usually manual trannys help raise the highway mileage... I'm a little confused by that...

I take magazine and internet reviews with a grain of salt. I tend to drive the vehicle and develop my own opinion.

I agree with you here, most reviews contain very little data and a whole bunch of opinion (rendering them basically worthless). However, the mileage given was the car's EPA estimate - the number that will go on the car's sticker.

Why do you think (assuming the number wasn't a typo) that the highway mileage would go down with the manual tranny?

Perhaps we just need to find out more about the car, i.e. weight, etc...
