Remote Start: Avital vs Valet 561R

Remote Start: Avital vs Valet 561R
I'm trying to decide on a remote start system. Best Buy has the Avital. Circuit City has the Valet 561R. Both are advertised at about $180 (including installation).
Does anyone have either one of these? Are there any recommendations for one over the other? I appreciate any feedback you can provide.
Thanks

I have the Clifford RSX 3.5 alarm/remote start. Don't know anything about those brands you listed, but I'm pretty sure that you'll need to buy a bypass module. Our cars have an immobilizer that needs to be bypassed in order to have auto start. DEI sells these things, but I believe you have to find the correct one because different years have different systems. I have a 2003 TL-S and the alarm shop that installed my alarm/autostart had to get the one of the DEI 555 modules (H I think).
Theres a few threads about remote start. Try a search on "remote start" or "auto start." If I remember correctly, a member actually did the install himself and uses his stock key fob, but you have to find the thread.

Porkchop Sandwiches!
I actually went and had the Avital system put into my girl's dad mini-van. Its good, mostly because its cheap. Also the van doesnt have imobilizer so that makes it even cheaper. They're a spin of viper, or so the guy at the shop told me. The remote looks like the cheapest viper remote start unit. Anyway, installation is more important the product here i think, unless you get a really cheap one, or one from like 1997.
I paid $170 installed, which is reasonable esp for long island.

I have confirmed that the Best Buy models (Avital and Viper) require an additional part that costs $120 on top of the $180 unit, installed. So, over $300.
I also confirmed that the Circuit City model (called "Python") is $200 installed but requires additional $65 in parts labor as well as an additional key that is installed in a lock-box. I only have one key so would require me to get copies made. Again, over $300.
Its not looking like such a good gift for me after all...

both of those models are the same, there made by the same company, dei is directed electronics... so your really just comparing prices... you have three options when it comes to your bypass modules, the 556u-- youll lose a key but works and is the cheapest, hk05 which is the new modules out which you dont lose a key but are a little expensive, and the 555h?? i think is the model, which you will most likely have to order cause its not usually in stock.
bb- the basic install is included, but the bypass module is roughly $30 to install. your also going to need the factory disarm wired up, because if not, youll have to unlock your car before you remote start it and if you dont your alarm goes off until you do. and if there smart theyll charge you, cause its a pain in the arrs if you wire it up the correct way ( through the rubber boot) lifetime warranty on install.
cc- i dont know because they suck!
you might want to have a certified installer and a company that will be around for awhile for any warranty work...
and to be honest with you, if your looking to upgrade to an alarm later, i would get it in now and an all in one, the 791 from viper is the big boy, but you could get away with the 771 from viper.. 791 works on an fm frequency sooo you get shloads of range and a lcd keypad.....771 less range and stupid led keypad.
im gonna stop babbling.. good luck, any questions just shoot.
