Remote Start...

I am sure this has been covered before but my searching came up with nothing. I would like to have a remote start unit installed that uses the factory key fob with some sort of button sequence that operates it... I saw a guy post something when I first bought my car (back in March) that did this and he posted a video of it. I want to keep all the features of my key fob and factory alarm but just add remote start somehow to it. Does anyone know of a unit that would allow me to do this? Thanks for your help.

Precisely, but I specifically want t use the factory fob, I know there are full alarms out there that I could use its fob and replace all the factory functions but I want the OEM fob.

If you didnt find it in search here- go to a few local real life alarm stores and ask them
Technology changes all the time
You may as well get a R/S with a new alarm, with one that beeps the remote if anyone touches the car
The TL alarm is sad compared to todays

I agree get an alarm with remote start.....stock alarm isn't really anything but keyless entry.....only if you open the door the alarm would go off....and your HIDs flash which isn't good. Also stock alarm doesn't have a shock sensor

I started a thread on this a while back. I still have to get around to the DIY but i am too lazy. Anyways i have the remote start and i still use my key fob (hit unlock three times to remote start) you need to get a remote start module (50 Bucks on ebay) and a bypass (15 bucks on ebay). The install isn't too bad once you know where everything is. I followed the wiring diagram from bulldogsecurity.com and the12volt.com

Oh and to the two posts above, you can always add a shock sensor which is pretty easy.

Nice, thanks man. What is the bypass for? Could you give me more info on what brands you used or suggest. Thanks again!

The bypass is needed because our keys send an encoded signal to the key cylinder in the car for security purposes. If there is no key in the ignition cylinder the car wont remote start because it does not sense the signal from the key. The bypass mimics that signal so that when the car remote starts, the bypass sends the remote signal to the key cylinder. The best brand that most people suggest is from DEI (Directed Electronics Inc) which i bought online for 15 bucks, make sure you get the right bypass for your car. It is signal specific. The remote start i got was 50$ and called Ultrastart Remote start. If you get the same setup i can walk you through the install. It took me about 2 days to figure everything out (Splicing wires, asking questions on the forum/email), but I can probably do it in an hour.

I will probably have a local shop do it if anything, not enough time it seems. Any idea a ball park figure on labor for this install? I know it varies from place to place but it couldn't cost too much.

Well if you buy the parts yourself and have a dealer install it, it's going to be expensive. When i was stuck on it, i figured on having an alarm store install it and they wanted 300 bucks. They said it would have been cheaper because they have deals with the manufacturers on installation prices, but i bought my parts off ebay so it would be more expensive. Problem was they don't sell add on remote starts, usually they sell whole alarm systems like clifford/viper/etc that requires a whole new keyfob. For 300 bucks i could have gotten a pretty good viper system parts/installed by them. I really wanted to keep my cool looking key fob though

Yeah. I got that too. really its just an add on. Tap five main ignition wire, and then park light/tach if you want those options. You could always try a different dealer. Or buy the parts and ask one of the tech's to do it on their off time. Any electronics person should be able to install it.

Model/Part numbers?

Brandon,
Thanks for all the good info. I am thinking of doing this as well. I just got my 2003 TL. Can you tell us the exact items/model numbers of remote starter and bypass you used. If possible you can just provide the links to eBay items. Also I need to get new OEM fobs because previous owner of my TL did not provide it with the car. So if you have any recommendation, please let me know.

Sure No problem.

Remote Start module:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270142417943

Bypass for Acura (MAKE SURE YOU GET IT MODEL SPECIFIC, i think mine was a DEI 555h or something that is for Acura TL Type S 2002, i think it will work for 2003)
Example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ACURA-MDX-TL-TRA...QQcmdZViewItem

And you will probably need some taps and butt connectors that you can buy at fry's or bestbuy. The key fobs are on ebay to for around 30 bucks.

how would you program your fob to do the remote start? does the remote start keep the doors locked after start up, have a timer of when the car would shut off when the key is not inserted in the ignition and automatically shutoff when the brake is pressed, again when the key is not in the ignition like aftermarket alarms? Just trying to compare between this option and an aftermarket one. thanks

I'm not sure how much you want to spend or whatever.. but if you decide to go with a complete system I would highly reccomend a compustar system. I'll be having mine installed in the spring and I can't wait. You'll be able to remote start your car with a cellphone, online, or of course with the keyfob. Their are only a select number of shops that are even authorized to install these even less when it comes to the pro system I'm getting. Just a sugestion. http://www.compustar.com I'm sure you could have it setup where you press lock/unlock a few times to activate the system just have to find a knowledgeble installer, which is not going to be found at a local best buy/circuit city. Just a thought though!

I've had the Viper 791XV remote start alarm for my Envoy for 4 years and I'm quite happy with the entire system!
