Recommended Service Schedule?
Recommended Service Schedule?
Does anyone have the recommended Honda/Acura service schedule online? That is, when you ought to change the oil, transmission fluid, etc?
My 2002 Acura TL-S just hit 39k and the service light is on and I figured to double check what I need to do. I can't find my owner manual and figured that this forum would be the best informed as to what should be done.
Thanks.

I should've checked online. It was in the https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com website.
BTW- how difficult is to do the following (mainly I'm not sure what these are)?
1- change air cleaner elements
2- inspect valve clearance
3- change dust and pollen filter
I've changed the cabin filter every year or so. Is this the dust and pollen filter?
I've changed my stock air intake filter to a K&N filter, but I have no idea on what the valve clearance is.

if your maintenance required light is on it doesnt mean you need work done to your car. Its supposed to be reset at every oil change and means nothing more than its time to change your oil.
As to your questions, yes thats the cabin filter and engine filter. valve clearance isnt something you should mess with(no offense-especially if you dont know what it is), that should be left to a mechanic.

No offense taken at all! I just didn't know what a valve clearance was. I'm completely ignorant of cars...not my hobby. What do I tell my mechanic? Do a valve clearance? Should this be done at Acura only? My mechanic seems to be pretty good...does mainly foreign high end cars like BMW, Jaguars, etc. I figured my little old TL-S should be in good hands.
Thanks.
unless you hear a terrrible clattering in the engine- the valve adjustment is fine
Not called for until 105k miles as I recall, and easiest to do when doing that whole
water pump replacement- change all the belts and throw on a UR pulley and thermoblock spacers while its apart!
Its only a few more parts to remove to get to the valve covers and then the valves- which should ONLY be adjusted by a skilled mechanic- not something you want too tight or loose , we are talking a spec on clearance of .08-.12!!! (example) and not something you want to take all that stuff off to get at ever again!!
With such low miles on your TL- look at the severe service schedule and the based on time not miles schedule- may be a good idea to do a coolant change and oil change, maybe the 3x3 trans fluid service

I had the tranny fluid changed by the dealer last year (who wants to take a chance while still under the 7yr/100k waranty?). I will have the coolant changed, the disc brakes replaced (squeaks), oil change, and tires rotated then. I can manage the air filters! ;-)
Thanks for the rapid replies, guys. I can get the car to the mechanic Saturday knowing that I've taken care of my baby! ;-)

Hehehe...I have no illusion that the dealer may be cutting corners. However, it's much easier to argue waranties when the work was done by Acura, no? Afterall, if the tranny blows, it's their exchange (just my time), correct?
