recommend buying a used 99 TL?
hi im excited about buying a 99 TL with 87,000 miles on it
excited, why? cuz im driving a volvo 740 wagon
would you recommend buying a 99 TL with high mileage?????
im not aware of TL's problems, but i just read the forum about tranny and rotor problems??
is it still worth paying 13,000 or less (after bargaining)?
Theres also a '00 integra with 34k miles for $13,000.
which would you buy? 99 tl, or 00 integ
thanx

I would by the 99 TL.
But try to get it cheaper, and with the money you "save" there get yourself an exteneded warranty. I got a 4 year 48k mile one and it covers all the major things like tranny, engine, blah, blah, blah...it kicks in after a month.
I got my 99 TL for $11,000. It is in like-new condition and it has 72k miles on it. I have all the service records. The car is very clean.
With it came some issues though.
The brakes were pretty much shot so I had them replaced. I had my mechanic replace them, plus oil change, getting a second opinion (he said the car was OK), checking the fluid, rotating the tires, etc...$700. (Expensive? But I trust his work so oh well)
I also know that the O2 sensor maybe going bad.
Also had the diagnostic come back with a inefficient catalysts...whatever...message. I'll have to take care of these problems soon.
The car runs great after I got my brakes replaced and new tires installed (another $450).
I am also concerned about the tranny. I've read many things about that here. Just recently, my 94 Maxima's tranny went out at around 81k miles. $2000....ouch. Gonna sell that car for $5k. Already have a buyer...
Sometimes, when I speed up, I see that it will go up to like 3500 rpm to go into second gear...feel like there is a lack of power when I semi-floor it sometimes. Don't know if that's a sign.
That said, with the warranty I have, I am not too concerned with it. The car is great. I like the luxury-like quality of the car. I've never driven a new one, but for a car that has 72k miles on it, it runs real nice and smooth. Definitely a step of from the Civic I used to have and the Maxima that I am selling and it compliments the 2001 MDX that I have.

Check this sight out.
http://www.carbuyingtips.com
I got the warranty from http://www.1sourceautowarranty.com.
I got their Emerald plan I think for $1750.
To check TL listing on Ebay:
http://listings.ebaymotors.com/pool1...x.html?from=R0
Or go to:
www.Autotrader.com
www.cars.com
www.yahoo.com (Auto section)
www.edmunds.com
I was looking at ES300, GS300, but it was out of my budget for a second car. I thought the TL had very good bang-for-the-buck.
Good Luck.

Unless you know people in car business i doubt you are gonna get auction pricing. I go to Greater Chicago Arena every tuesday and last week i saw a 99 silver with 97k mile sell for 10k. Also cars that you buy at auction most of the time need some sort of reconditioning. Another thing is that getting warranty on above 50k miles is very difficult so go to your local credit union for loan they have really low apr and they also provide warranty coverage uptil 150k Miles. Ofcourse things vary state to state so good luck.

FrikOfN8ur,
Now with the extended tranny warranty covering 1999 models that may give some peace of mind?
I just ordered a Factory Spoiler Kit, wood dash kit...might get some new wheels...not too sure.
It's a nice car. Nice enough that it makes me want to baby it some.

I have a 1999 Tl w/Nav. One of the first to arrive at the dealership. I love it. No problems at all. I set rear brakes after 78K. I like it better than my wife's 2003 TL w/Nav. If you get your price...go for it.

Go with the 99 tl.
My 99 tl drives as tight and quiet (actually quieter since I switched to Mobil 1) as it was new--with no major problems.
I had my car in for service yesterday and they gave me an '04 TSX as a loaner. Nice styling but a far cry from the smooth, quiet ride I'm used to.
With the extended tranny warranty to 7yr/100K on the tl go for it, though 13K for that many miles seems a little high.

I'm with everybody else on this one. Go with the TL and I can say this with a little more conviction as I own 2 '99 TL's and 1 '98 Integra LS (acutally in the process of selling the 'teg as you read this). The TL is head and shoulders above the Integra for all around comfort. The Integra is fun to drive but only on Sunday afternoons if you are by yourself. If you try to get more than 1 passenger in the Integra, you find out just how small it really is.
