RECALL for some 1999 TL's
Honda recalls 1.3 million cars for ignition fault
DETROIT, May 23 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (Tokyo:7267.T - News) said on Thursday it would recall 1.3 million Honda and Acura models to replace a faulty ignition switch that could cause the engine to stall.
Honda said the recall covered certain 1997 to 2000 model years of its Accord, Civic, Prelude, CRV and Odyssey models, along with some 1999 Acura TL sedans and 1997-99 CL coupes.
The automaker said electrical contacts within the switch can wear prematurely, making the vehicle harder to start and possibly causing it to stall. It said less than 0.3 percent of the affected vehicles have experienced the problem, and no accidents or injuries have been reported.
Owners will be told by mail to take their vehicles to a dealership for repair. Honda said given the large number of vehicles involved, it would take several months to make enough spare parts available to complete the recall.
The recall is one of the largest ever for Honda, and among the larger recalls announced by an automaker this year.

Hey!! I called Acura this week for this exact problem and, curiously, they recall TLs :p
They will fix my car for free
my car stalled like 3 times and it was kinda hard to start (i had to turn the switch a bit more to get the engine to start...
im happy now
btw, i test drove the G35 yesterday... i'll stick with my TL.....

i havent had it stall on me yet..but i've noticed that on a cold start, my TL takes a little bit longer to start, maybe 3 seconds or something....but when the cars warm or recently driven, it starts up normally..
also, i'm outta warranty period so i'm assuming i can still take it in?
hopefully they do the same thing with potential tranny probs but i bet they're holding back because of the cost factor.
but kudos to acura for addressing this.

That is so funny. Just recently my car has been getting harder to start, it would take a good 5 seconds of holding the starter to get it to turn on. It has never stalled thank God, but in the morning it is giving me somewhat of a problem. I told Acura and they are going to fix it. If anyone is having this problem call the dealer because they will be having tons of cars in and you'll be pushed to the back and might have to wait a long time to get it repaired.

yes, you can still take your car to the dealer for repairs because the nature of a recall allows an owner, regardless of warranty, to take it back to the dealer for repairs.

Well.
I went by the dealer today and no one knew about it.
Alldata does not have the recall either for the TL nor the 97 CL

Not that I don't believe you, but that we might have to wait a little longer until the word is out to the dealers.

Took my '99 to Hall Acura of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and they refused to fix my car. They stated Acura/Honda had NOT informed them of this serious problem, but would be glad to fix my car for 250.00. They also stated that they would refund the money if a recall ever DID come about. I am very dissapointed that somehow WE know about this recall and my fearless dealer does NOT.
This concerns me greatly because my car is stalling at odd times on the highway and in town. Nevertheless, I will wait for the recall to become common knowledge in the dealerships (tried Riddle Acura as well...they didn't know about it either). I would pay the 250.00 (Riddle said they would do it for 195.00), but this is a matter of principle.
Could you give me the date of the Reuters article you found, and the newpaper name?
Thanks!

Dont have the p arts
My TL is at the dealership now with some warranty work; mileage is 49,350. I didn't get a letter about the recall but plugged my vin on www.acura.com website there was a message that my tl was included in the recall. I mentioned this among many other small problems; my service guy told me that they dont have the parts yet. I'm in West Palm Beach, Florida so I guess if your in my region your in the same boat as me. Has anyone gotton theirs fixed? I cant remember if anyone mentioned it.
