Rear window tint

I just got the windows tinted on my '03 TL-S. It looks great except for the rear glass. As I have read in earlier threads, the tint doesn't adhere well to the dot matrix portion of glass which is the upper portion. The guy who tinted my glass says he can remove that portion which is on the dot matrix. He already tried sanding down the dots and this is the best he could do. Any suggestions? Do you think it will look good with just this part not tinted and the rest of the rear glass tinted?

I think it will look worse. One of the guys here did it and you could see the clear glass and the dot matrix and below it was the tint. I didn't like it, don't do it if you have 35% or less. My neighbor who has an I35 also has a dot matrix, had his tints done in a shop that services Benzes. The tint over the dot matrix isn't better than mine. Some of the dots have air in them and some don't.

Take a picture if you can and I'll let you know if you should change it or not.

My guy did NOT tint over the rear matrix. What he did was put a black strip of vinyl over the matrix, then tinted up to the vinyl. It looks awesome... actually looks factory..... and I don't have to worry about any bubbles or adhesion problems, etc.....

did he put the vinyl on the inside or out?

The manager or owner of the tint place I had my car taken said that they couldn't smooth it down perfectly.

Hey Juniorbean, what kind of vinyl did they use and where can you get it from? How is it adhered to the glass?

I have to say on a black car that method does look good, keeps the window looking smoother on the outside, but on silver i donno

Wow the black vinyl on the car looks really good ... Especially for NBP (which is what I've got) ... Definitely gonna have to consider that when I get my car tinted ...

I got mine done at California Auto Tint and Polishing in Campbell (Bay area). They did the vinyl cover up for the rear, etc--Very very well done. These guys take the windows off and bake on the tint so that it will never bubble.

They've been around for almost 30 years, and used by the local dealers--so the lifetime warrenty will prob last a good while.
