Exclamation Rear View Mirror leak???

I realized today that my rear view mirror was... leaking! Apparently it was the liquid that allows for the "auto" dimming. Has this happenned to anyone else because I have no idea what caused it!

Mine has ruptured (about a year ago).. but hasn't started leaking yet. Maybe I should get it replaced before it does?? I don't want to ruin my nice chrome shift plate!

mine did...it was everywhere and it was nasty...but luckily my car was still under warranty at that time so they fixed it for free and cleaned the inside of my car out......good luck

mine isn't leaking, but in some spots its a lot darker than in other spots. like around the corners. its not that noticeable but it really bugs me to have little stuff wrong with my car.

Mine just started "exploding" inside the glass yesterday and damn, it's annoying! I'm sure it's still covered under warranty, even though I'm at 87K miles.

I have the extended warranty, 7/100k and it is definitely NOT covered. "Trim" items are not covered by the extended warranty.

How much was it to fix it then, since you're saying it's not under warranty?

Last I checked the part was $100 at the dealer.. plus whatever labor is involved.

mirror defect

My rear view mirror just developed a "cloud" that moves around, but won't go away. Also, at night, car lights show up as double images. Both of these problems are annoying, so I guess I have to replace the mirror. I am over 50K miles; is there any possibility of this being fixed as a defective part or TSB item even though I am over the basic 50K?

My mirror went out after my 50k warranty, I went it and they did a goodwill warranty. I was about 1k over the warranty. They keep mirrors in stock, it's a common problem that they encounter.

You must be really lucky! Jordan Acura (in Des Moines, IA) - coincidentally the only Acura dealership in the entire state) charged me 129 bucks + labor. They said that since I had 87K miles on my car, that it's not covered under warranty...not even a goodwill warranty.

I'd drive to Omaha, but I think that 3 hrs for a mirror might be a little excessive.

After a bit of whining to the service manager at my local dealer (Radley Acura in Falls Church VA), they agreed to fix the mirror at no charge as a "goodwill warranty" repair, even though I am at 58K miles and thus am over the regular warranty. This seems to be a cronic problem for this mirror, judging from the comments here, and the dealer's difficulty in keeping the parts in stock. It looks like there is a flaw in the part provided by the supplier, and I suspect that Honda will go back to them.
