rear view mirror

I remembered someone posted the rear view mirror is messed up after using some cleaner to clean it. Mine is real dirty and I don't know what to use to clean. Any input?

I use the same cloth I use to clean my glasses with nothing else...it's soft so it doesn't scratch it up.

Yeah, avoid using Windex or ammonia products on the mirror. The dimming coating is affected by it for some reason. Not sure why.

Same goes with tinted windows. Ammonia has an effect on tint films which will make them fade over time.

I tried using the sunglasses' cloth, but the oil and dirt just smear. Maybe I'll try with terry cloth.

Just over time, there's oil or something that smears when wiped. Dunno what the heck it is.

Get a bucket. Put a gallon of warm water in it.
Put about 10 drops of dishwashing soap in.
(Liquid soap for the dishwasher works best as they have a sheeting action built into the formula)
Dampen a corner of a wash cloth and wipe.
Finish up with the dry part of the cloth.
