Rear View Camera

I was wondering if any 2Gen TL had this mod done. I have seen this done on 3Gen TL.

To start i have Dom's Navi to DVD Unit coverter an thinking about added a Rear View Camera. The problem is i think our license plate are too low an it's on Bottom of bumper an i wouldn't get a good view like 3Gen with license plate on the trunk.

Here some sugguestion i been thinking about doing.
1. Drilled hole into the trunk an make it look like key area to open the trunk.(since we don't have one ) Hope that not to hard to understand
2. Drilled hole in my WW rear spolier
3. Buy view camera i can mounted an angle upward
4. Forget rear view an make front view

I would use the $ to buy two cameras and LCD display(s) to replace side view mirrors, improve aero dynamics.

Not the A-Spec spoiler, but the Japan only Inspire spoiler. They are almost identical, BUT the inspire spoiler has the camera mount and doesnt require a vin. (just some way of getting it here)

will do

I have the back-up camera on my 2nd gen. they mounted it ubove the license plate on the lip, you can barely see it but the angle is so wide you can see everything in like a 5ft radius!

got any pics of where it's mounted. I am pretty sure I know where you're talking about but I want to see how noticeable it is.

This gives you an idea of what the JDM w/ camera and JDM w/o camera look like.

THANK ALot for all THE PICS....

Only thing now is i have WW rear spoiler so I cann't put camera there unless i do Option #3 or Buy me JDM spoiler w/ camera. Where can i go find one at? WEBSITES

I have try mounted it on 2 different spots an got a 1 new idea.
Spot1. Over the license plate is ok but, i get a very low of a view.
Spot2. I try putting the camera in middle of my third light, Only problem is at night no light when i put it in reverse an the view is pretty high.
3. Thinking about added me Shark Anttena an put camera inside of it w/ downward angle look.

^^^nice, how hard was the wiring? Does it automatically come up on the screen when you put it in reverse? Nice install, not noticeable unless you are really looking for it.

It's not hard at all. About hour for installed. You need Dom's Unit 1st for E-Z conncent. Only got hookup 2 wires the blue(power) and white(ground). An Yes it turn on, when i put the car in reverse.

Could somebody post a link to Dom's convertor? I tried searching for it, to no avail. I would be very interested in doing something like this when I get my TL... is it an expensive mod? Is there a specific camera I should use? What do you guys recommend?

Thanks!
Joe

Where did you find the JDM spoiler for 700.00???? I paid a pretty penny for both of my JDM spoilers w/ camera and w/o. And if you are talking about the one with the camera, you better expect to pay top dollar.

What really kills you is the shipping from Japan, and now... it's very difficult to find it in Japan and so many dealers here in the US are not willing to do the leg work for you.

I might be selling my spoiler w/o the camera, but I will only know for sure in a couple of months once I'm done with my two projects. Another thing, the JDM comes with green lights in the wing, you will have to make modifications to the lights to be red, not a big deal.

Good luck!

That was like 3 years ago when i was so into the JDM conversion. But it was expensive 700+shipping, so i gave up. Don't know how much now.
