Rear engine / motor mount labor cost?

Apparently I've been driving around with all 3 my engine mounts torn. I thought it was a suspension problem.

I live in Maryland and the local shop quoted me $900 only for LABOR to replace 3 engine mounts? He said the only way to replace the rear one was to remove the entire lower sub-frame which is a 5 hour job. Is this true? He said he's only charging me for labor for the rear only because since the lower frame is out, the other two are not a problem

Is $900 an appropriate quote? I was expecting labor to be no more than $400 for all 3 mounts

first of all you dont need to remove the whole lower sub frame. the rear mount can be changed with out doing that. you can change it yourself, but it is a pain in the ass, it took me a few hours to get it out and a few hours to put the new one in for the rear. tight space, requires you to lay on top of the engine and reach behind. i have seen shops charge about the same price they are charging you. if he has the lower sub frame out already, then its a piece of cake to put a new one in.

Do them yourself. They are not hard to do at all.

Check the DIY page for more info.

Thanks guys

If i was back home in Cali with garage and tools i would totally do it myself...but at school with no tools, no help, and no garage. $900 is alot of money... especially when you know u can do it urself.

Maybe hit up the regional meets section. There may be other aziners not too far from you.

X2 on that the subframe does not need to be lowered. Took me 45 mins for the rear on my first try. The other two are a piece of cake as well as the two on the trans.

$900 is too much for engine mounts.
