Rattling from trunk area

anyone know what this might be? it's only when I go over larger bumps in the road, or speed humps/bumps. It's like a double rattle "doo doo"

anyone know what may be causing this? suspension? trunk/spoiler loose? it seems to only be coming from the left side, but I might be wrong.

thanks

no idea. I did once drive with the trap door opened to the trunk, and was able to stick my head in. I think the noise only comes from the left side of the suspension (when standing on the outside and looking at the car from the back). do you have a spoiler on your car???

and of course when I bring it to the dealer, there's nothing wrong with it.

Is it the trunk release cable ? I read here someone had that issue where it was loose and they tied it down or something. Just a thought.

I doubt that's what it is, but I'll go check for that in the meantime.

thanks though.

nope, when I hear the sound, the music is always turned off. And I checked to see if the sub was loose, and it's not. it's definitely either coming from 3 possible things

1) Rear suspension- something is loose, or not properly installed
2) Trunk is loose
3) Spoiler is moving

I doubt it could be anything else.

I'm going tomorrow morning to the dealer for the seat, rattling, sunroof etc... I'll let you guys know if they finally have a diagnosis for the rattling

thanks guys for all your help, if anyone else has any ideas about what this could be, feel free to post.

yah well I'm going in on tuesday to have the car fixed of the rough idling issue. While one of their mechanics are looking into that problem, I'll try and have another one rip the rear end of the car off, and check out what this rattling is.

Do you guys find the same thing as me? I find that the TL has a lot of rattles coming from the back, but not so much in the front. If I totally ignore the noise in the back, and the car rode as if only the front was there, the car would be flawless. I always find weird noises coming from the back of the car.

The only noise I can think of that comes from the front is the squeaky seat (which I have right now), and the rattling moonroof, which can be easily cured with tape.

I had a similar rattle...turned out to be a mis-seated Navi computer that was rattling. Ended up isolating the points where it bolts to the deck lid.

i had rattle sound from trunk too..
turn out it's the foam between trunk and spare tire fall off..
so when trunk board hit the spare..
it make pa-da pa-da sound..
glue the foam back to it's position..
rattle sound slove..

u can check it if it's this problem..

I believe there is a technical service bulletin on the trunk rattle. It is covered under warranty. Take it to the dealer and they will fix it...they know about. I had mine done. Very quite over the largest bumps now.

yah I do remember there being a bulletin about this. Do you know what's the cause of this though?

Atleast if I suggest the potential issue to the dealer, they may be able to fix it. Any info is appreciated.

thanks

is it from inside the car, or from outside into the trunk?

Are you referring to the cover over the Sub which says "bose" or from the inside of the trunk where you would have to reach under to access it?

thanks

I would think any rattling from the trunk would have to do with the spare tire or the tools in their box.

I've already checked all that, it isn't that. I did receive the car with the spare tire slightly loose, I tightened it up, but the sound still persists. I'm sure some of the rattling was caused by the spare tire, but something more dominant continues to rattle. I'll figure out what it is in due time.

later guyz.
