Ramps Required to Change Oil?

Ramps Required to Change Oil?
About to change the oil for the first time and have a quick question:
Does the car need to be raised on ramps to reach the drain plug?
I can reach the filter, but I can not get the waste container underneath the car to catch the old oil.
What's the best way to raise the car?
Thanks,
AcuraFan

You can use ramps or jack stands.
Or if you have a sloped driveway and a garge, you can back the car into the garage and let the nose stick out a little. The slope of the driveway will give you plenty of room to work.

Even without the bodykit and before the drop, I dont know if I would have made it up a ramp without scraping and bending my lower air dam. Our bonestock Volvo S70 wont make it either, seems like less and less cars are ramp friendly.
I use a hydraulic jack and jackstands when working on my car, but if you have room for it, you can also build custom ramps using several pieces of timber from Home Depot all for only a few bucks. Just lay one piece on top of the other, the bottom ones long, and the upper ones shorter.

A few members here do this, and you can make a ramp as high as you want and with a gradual enough incline that your car could go up it it you were slammed with a bodykit on 20inch rims.

Another easy way is if you remove the right front tire using the factory jack in the right forward location. The drain plug and filter are right there and you don't have to actually go under the car. You just slide the drain pan in where the tire was.
This method works for me.

I can tell you for sure that std ramps won't work. Non-dropped, no frt lip and I wasn't even close. I think it the long front overhang that kills us.
Use hydaulic jacks, crawling under I couldn't get enough torque on the drain nut with a 8" rachet.

<< Get a set of Rhino ramps. >>
I agree, Rhino ramps are the best! lightweight and works well with cars without a lot of clearance. I used it on my lowered Supra without any problems. The last time I was at Walmart, I saw it for $29.99
You have to be a bit brave and careful to use it. Don't want to drive it off the ramp but it should be easy with FWD auto.
