Raced a souuuuuuped up Grand Prix, guess what?

hey guys. Last night I raced a souped up grand prix on hwy. 7. That thing was done up to the t*ts. the only thing missing was the P in "GT" so basically he had no supercharger. He claims he runs high 13's at the track so I decided to give it a go. Well he beat me off the line (only by 0.5 car lengths), I power braked and gate shifted the whole time, up until about 160 km/h, then I put it in SS mode to get better response. We raced up to about 210 km/h, at which point I was ahead the whole time. The grand prix is very torquey low end, but has nothing up top. He couldn't believe I was able to take him in a stock TL-S, he blamed it on me being an awesome driver, and he not knowing how to handle all his mods. In theory he should have raped me, but what can I say, ignorance hurts!!! Bottom line, he should learn how to drive!!!

Peace guyz.

I raced one two weeks ago at the track in G'ville that ran a 12.910 waxing my a$$, and there is one that posted at a-cl.com that ran a mf'ing 10.978! Sleepers for sure!

Go figure. I still wouldn't be caught dead in one...

I'm not even sure that our cars could improve so substantially to compete with a grand prix. I did end up talking to the guy for like 30 min, and we're meeting up tonight for coffee. Anyhow, he said these cars come high 13's stock, so I mean they already have a good 1 sec advantage on our ass. I would assume though that's with a SC. BTW he mentioned to me that he's aware of the TL Tranny issue, but said that grand prix's are even worse. They pretty much have a 100% chance of blowing your tranny, so there's no hiding from thjat.

Well, just think. After 6 months, that POS Pontiac will ride like a truck with no shocks and make more rattle noise than 6 sets of triplets! Why can't Pontiac build a quality car. Like back in the old days

Hey Jeff first of all good kill, but I don't know what that guy was smoking because you said that it was a GT not a GTP or even the GTP Competition Group which is the fastest stock Gran Prix and even at that the 2004 GTP CG only clocks 6.6 0-60 and 15 flat in the 1/4 mile so he must have a lot of stuff in that car or a lot of BS in it.
Also if he said that he can run high 13's at the track then he really is an idiot driving because there is no way that you can beat him if that was true.
Well just my .02 cents Jeff, great job!

Actually Grand Prix has a much better tranny. However it is rated for max 280 lbs*ft torque. So when someone puts on insane mods, then yes they will eventually break the tranny. But if they keep it near stock hp/torque numbers it will last just fine.

this sounds too fast for a GT. Plus it is not too easy to mod a GT.

GTP however is a different story. It is very strong stock and will put up a good fight against TL-S.
For $100 one can change the supercharger pulley for a smaller one and crank out much more HP.

yah I met up with a bunch of guys tonight at a local tim horton's. He brought some of his friends who are also running GP's and they also have them done up quite nicely. One guy has his, and it's a GTP, I'm almost positive he could rape me off the line. Anyhow, I drove in a guys 99TL today, and my g-d is that thing ever nice. He has some CT Headers and exhaust, and the noise that thing makes when it flies is priceless. What one can do with money to our TL's is priceless.

Like one of the member's on this forum said, the only thing that can prevent your obsession with modding your car is poverty!!!

so true man!!!

peace guyz.
