Question re: tranny costs ...
Hey All,
I'm in the market for an '02-03 TL Type-S ... but am starting to get a bit discouraged reading about all the tranny problems.
My questions:
If you have a warranty (ACURA certified, etc.), is the replacement covered?
If you don't have a warranty, how much is this costing you to have replaced?
I see people that have gone 120K+ miles, on their 2nd/3rd tranny ... that's crazy! I've got a 1991 Nissan 240 SX SE ... with a 5spd manual ... original clutch, 145K ... still going strong!
Thanks in advance,
Alex

the warranty on the tranny is to 100k on all but a few 03's (and id be willilng to bet if it fails it too would be covered under that warranty)
once past 100k going thru the Stealer your looking at about 4500+ for a tranny

How is it going with your tranny? Any chance you are converting the AT to MT? Do you know anyone did the conversion before?

How much to rebuild a dead tranny? Does everyone have the tranny issue if you drive mostly highway vs. city? City vs. highway?
Would anyone not recommend their friend, spouse, family member purchase this car b/c of the 'known' tranny problems?
Thanks ... just trying to make the most well-informed decision for me, and my family.

Three Wheelin'
I wouldn't recommend the car to a stranger, let alone firends or family. I started on tranny #3 at 88k. The car also suffers from undersized brakes, so I'm on the 4th set of rotors too...
For a friend or relative that wants something plush and well built, I'd tell them to get a late model Lexus ES300 or ES30. I've never heard anyone have serious problems with it. (Unlike the IS300 that had tranny issues in the first year).
