Question about transmission fluid..

I got my oil changed and everything about 1000 miles ago (3,500 miles on the car), and I checked everything today, and I see that my transmission fluid is below the indicator holes. My '03 TL-S uses up a lot of transmission fluid, or so I think so. Is this normal? or is there something wrong? Some help please.

Are there any signs of leaks with the tranny? This is one of the signs of tranny needing to be replaced (if it is leaking).

the transmision doesnt burn fluid like an engine does oil. if its low- either it wanst full to begin with or the thing leaks. also did you check it with the fluid at normal operating temp and engine running? thats how you are supposed to check it.

I have an 03 TL with about 4100 miles. The tranny fluid has been at the FULL level since I purchased the car. It appears that you have a problem

Checking tranny fliud levels in a tl/cl with the engine running is incorrect. You should always check the level with the engine warm but off. If it isnt full and was full...there is a leak. If it isnt full and it you dont know if it was full...fill it to spec and check it again at a later date.

Racinghart03 is correct on the process. Check your book. A car does not "use up" transmission fluid so you either have a leak or it was never filled correctly.

If you have your oil changed at the dealer, tranny fluid is a standard item that they check. If you have a problem, go back to them.

Only other thing to add to what RACINGHART03 wrote (above) is you should put you foot on the brake, and shift the car through all the gears, including reverse, before checking (or refilling) the level of the fluid. If you are low, top it off and check it again after a hundred miles. If you are low again, the tranny is leaking. While usually a leak leaves a puddle where the car has been sitting for awhile, its possible the fluid is leaking out while the car is mogving and because of wind pressure, it may have been spraying out underneath the car so take a peak underneath the chassis with a flashlight and looks for signs of wetness.

I checked it again, and I think it's fine.

I have no leaks on the ground of my garage or anything.

Going to check underneath for wet spots tomorrow.
