Question about sport mode and rollling dowshifts
So I've been having some fun driving my TL around hitting VTEC and what not, but I always noticed that whenever I downshift with the sport mode to have some fun, it always lurches forwards because of the lack of rev matching. The only way I'd have it not lurch before was by holding the throttle slightly, and that's worked fine so far.
Today however I decided to try and time the downshifts with a slight throttle blip to try and rev match similar to a manual transmission. I got the timing down and using no more than 30% throttle when blipping, it worked flawlessly. The rolling downshifts were very smooth, and it sounded awesome too. I didn't feel anything "catching" or slipping that would indicate an issue with this, but here's my question:
Will these small throttle taps while rolling and downshifting with the sport mode (no braking done here) mess up my transmission in any way? I figured I'd ask before I kept doing it.
Thanks in advance!

If you still have the factory automatic and have not swapped in an 06-07 Accord V6 transmission, I'd speculate, with this continued practice ,you will have trouble sooner than you think.

Thanks for the answer tho, I'll stop being silly with it

Well Zeta's answer is more of just a comment on 2nd Gen TL/CLs than anything else. They're fantastic cars if you ignore the transmission. Otherwise they're timebombs! I had an automatic 03 CL Type S that (for years) worked beautifully until I started enjoying the Sport Shift mode's "manual shifting". It didn't happen immediately, but after a few months (specifically about half a year) of occasional manual shifting it gave me a P0740 torque converter code. It's the classic death sentence code for these cars (that is unless you want to spend the money and time putting an Accord V6 trans into it like Zeta mentioned). Some people scoff at the idea of replacing the trans in a 17 year old car instead of just buying a "new" car.... other people scoff at the people I just mentioned! lol.
"Your mileage may vary" with this one though. Replaced trans, and then an overhaul? Might not ever happen. Or it might happen quicker. Who knows!

I am definitely very aware of the tranny issues with the 2G TL/CL I even babied mine the first few months of ownership. I decided eventually tho to just not worry about it and if it breaks it breaks, I did want to do the swap anyways. I'm definitely trying to enjoy this car as much as I can! I do have plans for purchasing a weekend car to really have fun in, but in the meantime this one's the one I'll be ripping around town in.
