Post Question about Polarg M-12s

Hey all,

I finally found some time to do some installing this weekend. I installed my Polarg M-12s for my front turn signals, but I was surprisingly disappointed to notice that they were not nearly as bright as my HIDs. They are definitely white, but not super white, and not very bright. Is this normal? I rechecked on the package and it said M-12. I also installed my friend's M-14 in one of the sockets to compare, and I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. Could somebody who has these bulbs help me out?

Btw, as one of the early members of this website, I apologize for not being around and contributing lately. Second year med school's tough... But I'll be back with a vengeance once I finish boards!

Hey UCLAtl,

I just installed some m-12 on my 99tl two weeks ago... yeah, there are not as bright as I hoped. Oh, by the way, I was a Bruin too as an undergrad... now first year at Northwestern Med... but always a Bruin at heart!

Hey UCLAtl... you go to UCLA? THats where I go. Maybe I've seen your car. I've seen a fixed up silver TL there with rims. That wasnt you was it? I'm always parked in Lot 4. You might see me. Say something if you see a TL with OEM kit and black A emblem.

Thanks for all the replies. Wow, this board has grown quite a bit since I last ventured here! There was a time when I was the only Bruin here... and only med student. Nice to see the growth!

UWTL, yeah you are right about the blinking. When they are blinking, they are pretty bright (about 75% of HID, I'd say), but when they are just on with the headlights, they have that kinda dark greenish hue with only 25% brightness of HIDs. The thing that puzzles me is why the M-12 is not really brighter than the M-14 I compared it to. The only thing I can think of is there is not enough wattage going to the bulb in the first place.

Drazzilb01, enjoy first year while you still can. Second year's a btch, plus you have to worry about boards.

Chocobo118, what does your car look like? My car isn't slammed and it still has stock rims. I know what car you're talking about tho. Slammed, rims, but no kit and no tails, and some non-C-tech exhausts.

Anyone else with Polarg M-12s with this problem? Any solutions? Anyone try the PIAA hyperwhite bulbs?

whatsup steve! yup, still alive... barely!

I installed the Gigalux BW401 in my front signals. Same problem. Check out the What's New section of www.24hiper.com. They make a dual filament S25/1157 bulb with a 15/50W rating. 15W is triple the M-12 power and double the BW401 power. Dont worry about your factory harness. The factory fuse blows at 100W... do the math. You can buy them at www.eautoworks.com but the're 35/pr. I'm looking around for a better price.

Our reality is only a faint shadow of the truth

You're right. It's not as bright as the HID's. That's a given... cuz it ain't HID.

It is pretty bright compared to other regular clear bulbs.

P.S. You thought you were the only Bruin. Boba is a Bruin, I am a Bruin (alumnus)... I'm sure there are more among us.

I'd bet we could disable the blinkers from being on at half power and they'd only come on when they blink...
