Question about New Tranny for my '99 TL

Hi everyone... was just curious about something.

I'm getting a new tranny for my 99TL due to gears slipping. My question is, are they replacing it w/ a "modified" tranny that has been fixed of problems that caused the original tranny to go bad?
Or are they simply replacing it w/ the same tranny that may go bad again in the future...

New tranny is coming in at 67,000 mi....

Thanks in advance for your replies...

I don't think you would get a modified transmission. So yes it could go bad later in the future. Someone mention the 03 transmission was fixed, but someone already had a bad 03 transmission. It could be isolated, but who knows.

Damn my 99 is about to hit 70k miles.

since your in the 60k range, i'm guessing your outta of the factory warranty period,

if so..and if you arent in an extended warranty plan..

how much is this costing you?

We had a new tranny put in our '01 TL when the car only had 20,000 miles on it. I was told they were putting a rebuilt tranny in and not a new one. I was not happy with this response and called the home office of Acura. They assured me that it would be as good as new, and that if we had any problems in the future, that the fact that I had to have new tranny put in would definitely be taken into consideration as far as costs of any future problems with the tranny. Hope this helps.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but could you get a 5 speed transmission put in there instead? I'm just curious, I have a 99 as well, and only 4 gears stink

Possible? Yes. Costly? Yes. If you do, you would also have to make other changes that the dealer would not cover, that is if they even accept to do it.

New ECU, PCM. $1500

New shifter, price unknown.

New gauges, price $200+

Some adaptations to the tranny, specially the cooler. A little different design, maybe a new Radiator too.

luckily i have an extended 100k powertrain warranty which covers the cost of the tranny replacement... hope there's a way to extend it even further past 100k, cuz i'm worried the new tranny will go out in another 60-70k...
