Question Question about new springs...

Thanks to Shyne's inspiring post about his new springs, I finally got off of the fence and ordered some for myself. So, now I'm waiting for my Tuesday "spring install" appointment and the local performance shop says that I need to have 4-wheel alignment after the H&R Sport Springs are installed.

The question is... Should I do the alignment... or should I skip it? Let me know what you think -- and why!

Thanks,

Vincent

you HAVE to do it. No question about it. Your tires will wear sooo bad that you will cry!!!

Wait two weeks after the spring install, and get an all 4-alignment.

Cool

Heh, heh, heh... Yep. You guys finally convinced me!

Ok... I understand the need for the alignment now. But why wait for two weeks? The shop wants to do it the same day they put the springs on.

it will take about 2 weeks for the springs to fully settle.. thats when you should get the alignment.

yes, H&R's are the bomb...i love them, just wish I could go lower...these are the perfect height for a bodykit though...i clear everything, and what I cant clear i dont drive over...ride is incredibly smooth and body roll reduced by at least 30%...i still haven't got my alignment, but I do need one as my car is pulling to the left not too bad...im getting it done, i might just get 2 wheel right now...Shyne

Ah, that makes mucho sense, gentlemen! I definitely appreciate your help on the matter.

I will convince the shop to hold off on the alignment for a couple of weeks to let my new springs settle. It shouldn't be too hard, I was just there an hour ago getting my SS brake lines put on! (No, I don't work on my own car... isn't that what money's for? )

Now I need to study up on some new tires... heh, heh, heh
(Damn, this site costs me waaay too much money...)

Later,

V.

Hey Vincent--where is this shop located, and how much did the shop charge you for the SS brake line install (and for the pending spring install) and did they do a good job, i.e., would you trust them with doing a competant install job on your car?

Just wondering since your from Sac and I now live in the area and wanted some input on reputable speedshops who do competant installs.

Thanks!
Tony

I voted "maybe" because when I got my H&R Sports put on, I wasn't out of alignment. The specs were good, front and back. Four months later, and when I had the wheels rotated (I know, that is a long time between rotating, but they are the stock tires and they SUCK ASS, so I was hoping for a reason to HAVE TO replace them, but...), the wear was still even! Darn. So, it gave me more time to look for wheels/tires. And here I am still looking.
By the way, it isn't the springs that need to settle, it is the rubber mount they sit on.
Do you have any other suspension mods planned?

I got my comptech springs installed WITHOUT ALIGNMENT!
Biggest mistake I ever made... Within 20,000 miles my brand new tires were ruined... The inside tread was worn down all the way to the metal strips underneath the rubber. New tires set me back 800 dollars... If only I had got the alignment done

SO I REPEAT! DO YOUR ALIGNMENT AND DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! UNLESS YOU WANNA REPLACE YOUR TIRES EVERY 15-20 thousand miles. NORMALLY THEY LAST AT LEAST 60k miles.
