Quad Projector Retro
I know I will probably get torched for even asking, but has anyone ventured to putting quad projectors in an 02-03 headlight? I searched but only saw one guy who did it and it was years ago.
I am going to run quad low beam projectors and have a pair of bi-xenons for hi-beams. I don't want to run 4 of the same projectors, as that would be overkill, so I basically want a nice set for width, and a nice set for distance.
Also, I am going to quad-retro for aesthetic purposes too, so I know dual projectors would be adequate, but I am going with quad. To each his own.
What kind of projectors do you guys recommend?
Thanks guys

not many have ventured into that arena. There was a stellar Quad retro done on a RL. Maybe use what he used

That was the thread I saw that convinced me to go with the quad setup!
Looking at that last picture of his RL with some fog in front of the lights was enough for me
Thanks fsttym!

To the few that care
TRS is having a monster of a sale and I ordered all the necessary stuff!
- FX-R 3.0 (pair)
- EvoX-R (pair)
- Apollo Shrouds (2 pair)
- Morimoto HID Kit (ThreeFive Ballast and bulb in 5000K and relay harness)
- JB Steel Stik and Quick Weld
- High Beam Splitters
- OCI Butyl Rubber Glue for reseal
I'm gonna use my existing ThreeFive with 5000K paired with my new one for quad low beam. Looking forward to being one of the few retros, let alone quad retros on Azine! This is my first retro, so any tips are welcome!
Thanks

Received my stuff from TRS about 4 days after I ordered it. With final exams, college applications, and soccer I haven't had much time to sit down and get this project done. I finally got some time to mock up the headlight and make adjustments, mounting solutions, and achieve a perfect horizontal, vertical, and rotational alignment.
I ended up having to ditch the stock reflector, as my EvoX-R would not fit in the high-beam spot, so these are mounted directly to the headlight housing, but fortunately the headlight bezel and shrouds cover about 95% of the mounting hardware! This has been a challenge, but has been a freaking blast! Just seeing the difference between one projector, and one HID reflector is absolutely crazy! I have made brackets and templates and have found the perfect combination, so now I have to put my old headlights on the car and go to work on the new ones!
Just some pics
Passenger Side 5000K 35W Reflector:
Driver Side with a single FX-R 3.0 with 5000K 35W:
Don't mind the rat's nest of a garage haha. I can't imagine what the EvoX-R + FX-R will look like compared to the reflector
Got both projectors into junk housing just to see how they'd look.
Don't mind the glare in the inner projector; it's reflecting off of the headlight bezel, which will be painted matte black.
With trimmed bezel on:
Will have black bezel like this: (don't mind dirtiness, it started snowing here)
Switchback + Parking Light LED:
With Christmas break coming up, I will have about 3 weeks to take my sweet time with this. I plan on blacking out hardware and bezel, but possibly keeping the shrouds chrome. With the demon eyes, it may look more evil (lol) with black everything. Any input?
Any comments/criticisms are welcome, so fire away!
Quick edit: If you ever plan on doing a quad retro on a 2G TL, the only hiccup, as far as mounting goes, that I ran into was the projector on the driver's side high beam spot didn't have enough clearance because of the radiator overflow reservoir behind it. My solution was to lower the reservoir about 4 inches so that the back of the projector + igniter have enough clearance!

Damn man looks sweeeet and clean. Id just paint hardware that's showing black and you wouldn't notice a thing. Since you got rid of the reflectors could you still readjust the lights, say if you dropped or raised the car?

Yep, hardware and bezel are getting painted matte black to reduce possible glare and hide mounting hardware!
Even though I got rid of the reflector, the "L" brackets I used will allow for horizontal and vertical adjustments by either bending the "L" brackets forwards or backwards, or adding washers underneath the projector to raise and even one side or the other!

Oh come on Skirmich, I'm only 18 and I am doing pretty well for my first retro; if I can do it, most anyone can! It's not that bad! Just a lot of creativity and a lot of improvisation. Things usually don't work like you think they will in your mind.
I may be in Cali soon though, Stanford is calling my name

I know this part of the retro will get mixed reactions, but what the hell, to each his own! Everything in front of the shield is painted with VHT Flameproof Red paint, and there will also be a red superflux LED epoxied into the top of the projector to give it a passive and active demon eye look, and the red LEDs will be on a relay to turn off when the headlights come on. The red isn't noticeable when the projectors are on!
I'm going for this look:

The red looks pretty cool. You guys have a lot of play on the later models, I've bought the humongous tl projectors for my retro and she's a tight squeeze to say the least.

No mixed reaction here .......devilish cool look with the "demon eyed" effect that the red has. But, in being the devil's advocate ......things like inspection and cops may not see the red as cool, IDK ??? Personally, depending on the car's color, I'd kinda like a heavenly blue, but then again .....red or blue is associated with emergency vehicle use. So perhaps amber would be the comprising choice of color, IMO. Hey, great work and keep plugging away with the project !!!

Yeah, but apparently cars without orange reflectors/parking lights in the front are also illegal, and I haven't ever been pulled over for not having orange reflectors or parking lights! It's more of an appearance thing, and if I decide it isn't worth a possible risk, then it's a good thing the red LEDs are on a switch
Also, having shields painted red or blue isn't illegal, as it is only visible a few feet from the car and doesn't actually project the color, just reflects!

Got little to nothing done over the break, which is due to my laziness and wanting to relax after first semester, and the subzero temperatures here! I decided to do Angel Eyes/Halos along with the Demon Eyes. I know it doesn't usually look good on TLs, but with quad projectors it will actually look pretty good IMO. I know its a Bimmer thing, but to be honest, I really don't care haha
The halos loosely attached to the shrouds:
Also got the Superflux LEDs epoxied into holes I drilled into the projectors, here they are with the halo mocked up
Without Halo:
The red in the right one looks distorted, but it's just the angle the camera was at
How do you guys think they would look if it was completely blacked out? I'm removing the chrome-colored stock reflector, and the bezel is already matte black, and I'm thinking about painting the Apollo shrouds matte black. Would that be too much black? My grille is plasti-dipped, so it wouldn't look entirely out of place I suppose
I have a 3 day weekend upcoming, so I am hoping to finish cutting my mounting plates by Friday and will hopefully be able to take apart my stockies, transfer mounting plates + hardware into them, route the CCFL and LED wires, and aim and tune the projectors and be done by the end of the weekend.

^ This is definitely very unique and your progress has been awesome! Can't wait to see the end result.
My opinion... I don't think you should completely black out the housing. Our TL has a simply classy look, so I think you should keep the chrome reflectors. Adding the projectors definitely modernizes and refreshes the look.

Well I have to get rid of the chrome reflector, as the projectors won't fit with it in the way. I will probably keep the shrouds chrome to help offset the black of the bezel and housing!

Had some time to finally take apart the headlight I'll be using. I almost have one headlight done, but man this shit is time consuming! I love it though; just seeing the progress and seeing it all come together finally. Seeing that the end is near also helps
The lens is dirty and the bezel still needs to be trimmed to look good.
Here's how the one I'm almost done with looks:
And with CCFLs on:
In the dark:
Demon and CCFLs on:
Demon eyes on:
And finally the low beams:
It's looking pretty good if you ask me, but then again I'm pretty biased
Let me know what you guys think so far! Hope to be done and mounted soon!

Oh you can say that again, I would never have them on at the same time! I was just showing all the possibilities. When the halos are on, you can barely see the red anyways! I'll probably just use the demon eyes for show, or to look scary as hell in the dark when I lock/unlock the car!

Oh God you couldn't pay me enough to do another quad project. I did this to be the only one (to my knowledge) to have done it! And of course the great visibility! A single projector retro on the other hand... I would possibly be willing!
I still have to finish mine! It's been to goddamn cold and windy here to finish them! Once it gets above 35 degrees I'll be outside making final adjustments and sealing up the headlights!

I really want to know how this is done, i want to do it to mine

I sat there and looked at those damn projectors for hours, thinking of a way to put those demon eyes in. Then I realized that the life of an LED is long enough for me to not worry about replacing these (that, and I won't be using them that often.) I finally ended up just drilling a hole in front of the cut off shield and JB welding the LED there!
