Qty of transmission fluid needed

2000 TL. I am planning a transmission fluid change this weekend. Wanted to pick up some from the Acura dealership tomorrow. Does anyone know how many quarts I need to buy? I won't be able to go back to the dealership this weekend, so I want to be safe and buy enough (quarts). Thanks.

Planning onjust draining fluid? You know that only replaces 30-40% of the fluid. If you want it all out you need to go in for a tranny flush. Just a straight drain I hear its about 3-4 qrts. Someone wanna confirm?

if i remember correctly, amsoil, or redline was just certified for honda trannies now, i would check into which one it is and get that. and to do it your self you need to drain-fill, drive around drain-fill, acouple times to help insure you get all the old out and all new in.

To answer your question...

You'll need 3 quarts (actually it's 2.9 qts).

I do a trans fluid drain & fill at every oil change, I figure it's good, cheap insurance for keeping the trans healthy.

2.9 quarts is for the 4-speed automatic (1999 Model)

The 5-speed automatic requires 3.1 qts of trans fluid. I would purchase 4 quarts.

Don't forget to pick-up crush washers for the drain plug and fill plug.

3 quarts out and 3 quarts in. I will buy total 9 quarts and flush them 3 times because you cannot complete drain all the fluid out at once.

A crush washer is the metal washer which go on the drain bolt. When you tighten it is crushes slightly to prevent leaks. Since the washer crushes you are not to re-use them. Your parts person at the dealer should know which ones you will need.
