"pshhh" sound when I let go of the brake pedal...

Whenever I let go of the brake pedal, there's a "psshhh" air leaking sound coming directly in front of the driver's seat. Like, in the left front engine compartment area.

Could be a master cylinder pressure leak, I don't know. Acura did something to it last to week to fix it, but it came back and now it's getting worse.

Anybody else experiencing the same problem?

Do a brake-hold test. Get the car warmed up and put it in drive and don't touch the gas. Push your foot on the brake with the same pressure you would to hold the car at a stop light. Hold your foot there for 3 minutes. If your foot does not move (go down) even the slightest then there should be enough system integrity to stop the car in a panic stop. If your foot does move (albiet very slowly) in that time span then there is a leak somewhere. As you said, possibly in the vaccum booster (some sort of pressure release valve?).

Thanks for the info, Tom. I'll do just that.

What surprises me is that Acura claimed they fixed the problem. Then they said if it comes back, there's nothing they can do. Ummm... last time I checked, I bought an Acura from that Acura dealership, and if an Acura dealership doesn't know what to do, then what the hell did I pay money for??

Better yet, I think that the NTSB requires car to actually stop. Nothing they can do? I would be talking to a manager if they can't fix my brakes.

Pure Adrenaline....i have a 99 tl and i also had this problem last year....but when it made the pshhh sound my car would "jerk" a tad bit... the problem is the POWER BOOSTER..urs is deffective..just like mine they HAVE to cover it under warranty...they are too lazy to do it because just like in my case they had to call somebody else to verify that its ok to change it or something like that....take them on the road and show them whats happening (they asked me to show them what was wrong cuz they didnt believe me..im 18 so they didnt take me seriously...i took the tech. for a ride in the parking lot..i was goin 25 mph in the parking lot and slamming the breaks...he **** his pants and fixed it within 2 days hahahaha)
sometimes u must be ruthless =) good luck

Mine doesn't jerk... (yet??)

But that sound is annoying. It's nothing the stereo can't drown out, but sometimes when I want quietness and drive without music on, it bothers the heck out of me.

I guess it's going back to the dealership.

As other people have mentioned... Your problem ISN'T normal. Have them start up a car on the lot to show them the difference between yours and theirs. They HAVE to fix it under warranty. Take it back THREE times for the same problem, and if they don't fix it... threaten to use the lemon law. Don't let some lazy dealership ruin your life with faulty brakes. Take names, etc. and let them know that they could be liable for any accident that may occur. A manager should make sure this gets fixed after that approach.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I do believe that brakes are the most important part of any vehicle. If you can't stop, then there's something with the wrong picture there.

I don't see any decreases in braking ability, however. But I'm just worried that this might lead to a bigger problem. I'll have the dealership check it out again for sure.

Once again, thanks for the info.
