have to say that is pretty much "normal" for these trannies. Especially like you said when it is real cold outside. My advise is to shift easily when you start the car. I usually just put it in reverse then back to neutral and stop then go to drive.

But mine doesnt SLAM or anything, there is a slight jerk though if I am not smooth with it - and you will always hear a "clunk" sound when you shift into or out of reverse - all Honda's. I heard an Accord do this today...made me feel better I guess.

Yeah ... it's a tranny thing. It happened with my '91 Accord EX (196000km when I traded it in) and it does it with my '02 TL-S. Warming it up a bit before taking it out of park might help (at least, in my experience ...) ... I normally let it idle 30-60sec before driving off if it's parked outside for a while.

Do you put the e-brake on when you park? Not having the brake on can cause strain on the tranny. If you put the brake on, it may make it easier to shift from P to R.

My boyfriends Maxima does this, I haven't had this problem with my TL.

Joe's Maxima has problems with the P to R even when it isn't parked on an incline...Maybe he just has a problem with it, but when the brake is used, there's no problem at all.

mine does that every morning to, I someone saying it is becasuse you oil needs to warm up. I find it true because it only happens when the temp is low. I think the owners link said that it is normal will all honda

my 99 tl jerks when going into reverse too when it's cold. Dealer told me that it's a sign that it needs a new tranny. My local dealership is famous for "preventative maintenance" and "make work projects"- so I don't trust him. I'm not covered by warranty so I will drive until it breaks. I'll let you know when/if that happens.

Exactly, don't fix it unless it's broken.

BTW, congrats on the 1st post and welcome to the forum.
