A price quote from a Seattle dealer (good/true price?)

Thanks to all the Seattle posters for advice on where to go for a deal. I decided to sit back and fax bid requests to dealers. Some didn't respond at all, but several did.

I asked for a price on a Satin Silver or Antracite 2003 TL type S. The highest price was $30,999. The lowest was $28,395. This looks like a very good price. It doesn't include tax or license of course.

What do you think. Is the 28k price realistic? What should I watch out for.
If I can get this car for under 29k I'll probably do it.

Thanks.

Hmm...$28,395 for a TL-s (I assume without Nav) seems too good to be true, since the invoice is a tad over $29k. I'd confirm the details with the dealer to make sure he's quoting a TL-S and not a TL-P.

If it checks out - run, don't walk, to check out the vehicle!

BTW, who gave you the lowball offer?

Acura of Lynnwood gave the low offer.

Acura of Seattle gave the higher of the two offers. Haven't really had many responses. I assume luxury brands shy away from fax bidding?

thanks.

Oh, and they did include the description in the bid, which was a TL type S.

Wow! That's a great price - Edmund's True Market Value for a TL-S w/o Nav in this area is close to $31k.

Despite my reservations about Acura of Lynnwood, I think you should jump all over it (assuming it's the car you want, etc.) You can't go wrong buying a TL-S at that price - even if the dealership is somewhat slimy.

Let us know how it turns out.

Car Prices

Out here in cali I paid 31,230 including dest. for a TL-S with nav, wheel locks, and a trunk tray.

BTW- this was back in April of 2001..... so if you minus the 2,000 I paid for nav then around 29,000 is possible and a good price!

Good luck on your purchase.

I purchased my TL-S from them and have nothing but GREAT comments regarding the sales staff.

29,900K out the door, but that's without Nav...

The low price was for a Satin Silver TL Type S without Nav.

If I do start dealing, do you think I should do the dealing via e-mail or go in face to face. Which is the best strategy?? I'll stick to my guns, but want to make it as easy as possible.

I've already test driven the vehicle, but will probably ask to go out alone for one more drive.

Thanks for the help!

I've started the haggling process and hopefully will get somewhere in the next week. I also plan the diligently research the supposed transmission issues. Hope all works out.

Colors: I really like the Anthracite, but damn if they will deal on this color!!! They seem more willing to deal on the Silver.

Thanks!

My (informal) observation is that silver is the most popular color, and dealers order accordingly. Thus, they usually have many silver TL's on the lot, and may be more likely to deal.

Either that, or they know that you really want the Anthracite, and use that to their advantage!

Good luck with your negotiations. I'll look forward to seeing another TL-s on I5/405 in the near future.

Thanks, egilsrud. You've been a great help. I'll let you know how things go.

I'm currently driving a 1991 Accord DX, so as you can imagine, I can't wait to get new 'wheels.'

That's a damn good price for $28K. Have prices/demand dropped since last year? When I bought my 2002, they were brand new to the market and very few could be found at dealerships. The CL-S was stacking up on the dealer lot and I could've gotten a CL-S for $28K.

But the dealer in Charlotte, NC refused to budge on the TL-S. They didn't have many in stock and they could've easily sold that ABP beauty for MSRP to someone else - after all it's a damn good deal even at MSRP (compare price to equally equipped BMX, AUDI, LEXUS). At least they didn't mark up the vehicle like Honda did with the S2000 when it first came out.
