exterior welds all look good!
but the "quality" issue comes when you get inside the manifold. i don't see it as a big deal. the rest of the pics will show what i mean. when you look inside there are no welds, and they finish of the edges with a dremel. there's the comptech difference! on the inner piping at the opening of the manifolds there is some rust as you will see. i don't believe it goes past that point, it's just where the inner pipe is exposed at the edge of the stainleess. i'm gonna remove it, and coat it with some high heat 1500 degree black paint just to be safe! i inspected the whole front and back manifolds with a flashlight and cleaned the whole header/downpipe with brake cleaner on the inside! there are some particles of soot and metal that you don't want in your system! then i blew all piping dry with a leaf blower. i plan on redoing the header a second time with brake cleaner before the install. the front manifold had a very small dent on the top of the 3rd pipe, you will see it. very small and doesn't bother me. i'll let you guys know monday what the results are! installation, any issues etc. far as i can tell as of right now, i think we have a winner!!! other than the higher quality of ct in a few areas, i can't see it justifying the 3-1 price discrepency! it looks just like a ct! all will be known on monday!!! i will let you know if i think it was worth it! kman

Hey! Those look familiar!
Steve, here's how I cleaned them out. First you need this "tool"
-----(string)-----XX(rag)XX-----(string)-----o (washer)
Tie a string on both ends of the rag, and a washer to one of the strings. The washer is to get the string through the pipe (let gravity do your work for you).
Take 'em outside and use soapy water on the rag (or brake cleaner - I used soapy water and it worked well). Run the rag back and forth a bit, and it will knock the junk off the inside. Just rinsing with water - or brake cleaner probably won't be enough.
If you notice - the gunk is only where they bent the pipes - it's probably some lubricating compound used in the bending process.
Yeah - it's a lot of work, but I don't think you want that junk going in and ruining your catalytic convertor. Those things are VERY expensive.
(BTW - you have the collectors on the wrong down pipes... swap 'em)

oh yea, up close in and out!
there's a diff, but like i said not enough to justify 3-1 price diff IMHO. unless they do something drastic like crack right away! they do look great, too bad they mostly go unseen! i just went down to the garage to see that shiny tuba again!

Congrats, Looks exactly like mine... but no bend for me
I guess what you are refering to as rust is night be just discoloraltion from heat of the TIG weilding.
Also, I did not bother cleaning or smoothing the inner tubes and the colloector... though, that is a great idea....
Also, we noticed that the headers ports are smaller than the block ports... so enlarging those headers ports is a great idea too!
Congrats again...

O.G.
Did you know that the stock opening is bigger than OBX? It was posted over at ACL with a comparison pic of the two. Just wondering why would you or anybody else buy something that is even more restrictive than the stock? And have you been reading some of the horror stories about the obx headers? Just trying to look out for you.
Enough of the bad news.
Good luck with them and let us know how it turns out.

hey shadow
wuz up? i know what i bought! if your talking about the stock block ports being bigger than the headers, they can be bored out , but regardless you still have more air flow! plus hooked into my magnaflow free flow cat converter and catback exhaust, and the injen cai! i think other than fitment issues this will be an inexpensive upgrade! yes, the comptechs are better quality but i spend $165 on door sills here, $100 on a shift knob there! look at how much we spend on b.s.! last night i dremeled out all the ruff spots in the manifolds and pipes, sanded out, cleaned out with brake cleaner , hot soapy water, then used 1500 degree high heat aluminum paint to touch up the weld spots and any exposed metal! looks even better than when i got em! of course anyway, i have read all the info on a-cl some good, some bad. the creamic thing looks like sh*t. you guys who know me, know how i flow with my ride. if i thought for a second this was a highly questionable deal i would never do it, you also know that i like to experiment! so let's see what happens? if they are sh*t , i'll be the first to tell you! kman

To much of a free flowing exhaust can hurt a cars performance as well. If you have some restriction you can get some mid range power.
A guy with only headers from the last run he did of 14.8 at 94 mph stock he ran with OBX headers now, same conditions and ran 14.3 at 99 mph.
BIG difference. Auto CL-S...
No TYPE-S has hit that trap speed in a auto with just headers.

Kman156... good job you did there... I wish I had done the same... I am sure if you dyno you see higher gains than mine...
I wished the headers came like that smothed , cleaned and Hi-temp painted... But I can not complain....
Just let us know of any added resonance sound...

What do you expect from OBX? BTW, are those made of stainless steel? I wouldn't touch it without gloves on cause it will stain your finger prints on it........you'll see what I mean after you put them on and run it for a while.

I've had mine running for a week or so and have had no change in color beyond the initial color change when they first got heated up. Fingerprints didn't make a difference.
