Post Performance Pistons?

Does anyone know if any company makes performance pistons for the 3.2 tl. If so what company is it, how much does it cost and how much of a gain does it give.

Doubt it. Not the same kind of market for those parts like with Civics or Integras. You could have a good tuner shop do a port and polish on your cylinders and valves and there may be a new cam available. Ask F=ma, he's up on all that motor stuff.

There isn't going to be much performance gains from swapping your pistons for some high performance ones like JE's. If you are going to go forced induction of some sort, that would be a good investment. If you are going N/A and just want to raise the compression ratio, the easiest way is to get a thinner head gasket(you will need 2).

Hahaha TL Daddy, I'm flattered.

Jeffy, what TL daddy said was pretty much right on. All we've got going for us right now is the option of porting and polishing, and perhaps even extrude honing ( www.extrudehone.com ). Its a process where they force putty through your manifolds and heads and it smooths out the walls and strengthens the material for better overall flow.

Also Cams will be available soon enough. This is good reason enough to sit and save your money for. I'm not exactly sure how much they'll cost, but Inline 4's Cams run from $400-$800 for a set. If you stop to think about it too, their intake, and exhaust cams are completely different. Our SOHC cams are basically identical. Just two copies of the same cam. But anyways, yeah, cams should be out relatively soon. Be patient.

As for the piston issue the only one I can see for our cars is the Type S pistons. The whole Type-S valvetrain actually would make for a better flowing head, they have larger reshaped valves, and the cams are even tweaked for higher lift on intake and exhaust, and more overlap.

I'm sure though that the upcoming cams that Tim is working out for us will be better than the Type S's...

There are a bunch of different alleys to delve into, but I havent had dinner yet...

I agree.

Its really not common to just do pistons. Its really a whole process, cams, cam gears, valves, springs, retainers, pistons, head gasket... they all make for a system that works together.

Oh and for the record, roughly every point in compression ratio (9.8:1 , 10.5:1) that you raise, you gain about 5% in power though an increase in adiabatic efficiency.

i have a question for you. i read somewhere that the TL's only have a vtec lobe for the intake valves only. is this true? do you have to have DOHC like the NSX for the VTEC to be used on both intake and exhaust?
reason i am asking is i wonder if a hotter cam would make that much of a difference.
also i read in the same article that the rocker arms are roller type. i dont get what is different about the valve train between the type s engine and the TL. cam you enlighten us?
