guess what? I can get them produced .. i think. They want 400 orders though. you guys think we can even get close? They'll manufacture foglights just for our cars. I'm gonna have to send them a bumper for a TL so they fit well. Anyone have a spare bumper lying around?

mhsu, make sure that the cost per unit (based on 400 orders) is going to be reasonable. If the cost is going to be outrageously high, there will be no demand. Keep this in mind while you negotiate with the manufacturer.

Yeah.. 400 is alot of them... but I'm sure we can get more than 3/4 of those sold to the 99-01 members.

but when they do get here, and the price is reasonable, put me down for a set!

Thanks Tim!

Can you give more info on what these fogs would look like? Will they match the color of our HIDs? Will the lens cover the entire area of the fog hole (i.e. not a black cover around a smaller lens)? Sorry I doubted you, but we've had our hopes up before only to be disappointed.

UPDATE:

i got this email back from the manufacturer:

Dear Mr. Mike Hsu,

We would appreciate if you could send one set of fog light and the bumper to
us. Upon receiving them, we will work on the tooling cost & each fog light's
price. Please advise when samples are sent. By the way, I got your phone
number XXXXXXXX. Is this including country code? I could not find any
country whose code is 85 or either 858. Please advise.

April Lin

It looks like everythings going smooth so far. Tim, maybe we should contact each other by the phone. Since you are the one that will be purchasing the foglights, why don't i talk to you by phone and maybe give you all the info i have on the manufacturer so you can deal directly with them. All they want is the bumper of the car. How does that sound?

I don't get it? What fogs do they want. They say please send one set of fog light and the bumper. Are they aware that we don't want replica's of an existing fog and that we want something to custom fit TL bumper? Is there something missing in that message?

nah. we don't have to send them anything. The inspire doesn't even fit on our car so theres no point in sendeen that. All we need to do is send them the bumper and tell them to make a foglight that fits. It would be nice to send them the inspire fog to let them know what kind of foglight we want it to look like in the end.

Snook, if u can, get the bumper to them (call me and we'll talk about it). All we have to do is tell them the depth of the fog we want manufactured and it'll b aLL gooD.

Make sure to ask them to make quality clear lense fogs (durability and brightness), NOT like those on the CL-S.

Please keep us updated on this because this is something I (and a whole bunch of other owners) really want.

TIA!

Doesn't sound that way by the email you posted, they are looking for a foglight to send that along with the bumper.

Sounds like your running into the same walls I ran into
And they would need to make a sample for us to see, of how they would look, or no one will want to buy

wait. can't they make a foglight for us if we gave them the bumper. it's not hard. all we need is a fog light that looks like the inspire fog that will fit. how hard could it be for the manufacturer? They just have to make a mold of the plastic and duplicate 400 times.

Hey...mhsu408

I agree with Tim.... Looks like they want to get the set of fog and duplicate them. Why don't you call them again and ask what they'll do exactly. Ask them if we can send a bumper only and they can manufacture the fog w/o the fog sample.

OMG! $200?

Dude, you're like a bit too late. If you posted this like last year, people would have paid $500 IMO. I guess the economy f@cked everyone up.

haha trust me. If we get these produced. if tim sets the price at $400+ heLLLA people will still buy them. You see.. where ELSE are you gonna get fogs that fit? Only alternative is piaas and other aftermarkets that don't look that good.

My personal opinion is that trying to get a custom fit fog light for our 1999-2001 TLs will be more expensive than it is worth. The manufacturer gets the bumper, creates a mold, then get parts that will fit, etc. This all takes time and money. The only way the manufacturer will go ahead with something like this is if it gets a large order or can charge a premium on each unit. Sorry, but 400 units of fog lights does not sound like a large order to me. And who would want to pay $800-$1000 (I'm guessing at the $ amt here) for fog lights, even if they are custom? Unless you have some connections (in Mandarin, "guanxi"), you will not be able to pull this off. It is not very likely you will be able to get the factory to produce 400 fogs at a cheap price. Sorry for being pesimistic, but reality calls and we all got to wake up and smell the coffee. But I welcome you to prove me wrong.
