Parking Brake Cable
Did a search and couldn't come up with an answer.
Wife called me from her TL with a parking brake problem. I drove to her office and looked underneath and saw that about 1 inch of the parking brake cable housing leading to the left rear (LR) wheel was stripped at the point where it's held by a bracket/clamp to the frame, about 16" before it reaches the wheel. I unbolted the clamp which was causing the stripped portion to bind the cable preventing the brake from releasing the LR wheel. This released the tension allowing the car to drive normally.
Car's still under warranty so I'll take it in for the fix. Just curious if it's OK to drive it w/o damaging the LR brake. Nothing seems to be grabbing or binding. Any thoughts/advice?

you are fine if the brake is released. the parking break on the tl is a seperate brake form the rear brakes. on the tl the parking brake is a drum brake. its on the inside "hat" area on the rear rotor.

I hope it's just a warranty covered defect, but I'm thinking it could be road debris damage...like running over a piece of metal or a rock or something. That would make a noticeable noise, tho, and neither my wife nor I recall anything like that recently.
AND, we certainly don't do any off-roading with the TL...nosiree!
