Mine sucks too. I took it to Acura and they said, sorry, not our problem. That's B.S. Maybe if enough people complain, something will get done. They said the paint looks lioke it does, chipping and such, because I leave bird crap on my car too long. Wrong answer!

Well, it seems that its not just acura but most car companys paint sucks nowadays, but im seriously thinking about getting it repainted by a reputable paint shop. I mean the paint shops paint job should be better than factory right?

I'm thinking about $4000 - $5000, assuming you keep it the same color. That way they don't have to repaint the entire car. They can blend in section like under the hood, door frame, etc.

Paint jobs will only be better if you pay for extra layers sealants, etc... otherwise the paint itself is pretty much the same.

As for Acura doing something about it. We've been complaining on acl.com since the 2001 CL's were introduced... and nothing happened. Some people who have cool dealers were able to get stuff done...other then that you're on your own.

I was under the impression that regardless which auto manufacturer, most use the same paint from the companies below:

BASF DuPont Matrix PPG Sherwin-Williams Valspar

Only difference is the color formulation.

I have an issue with the paint of my vehicle at the hands of Rick Case. The paint on the hood has bubbled up (4,000 miles) and I have noticed little flakes have come off all over the car (down to the silver/white metal). By the way the Dealer has acted (pass the ball around, no phone calls are returned), I suspect that they know what is up and can't / won't/ don't know how to deal with it.

This attitude is a shame because it will eventually stear me away from considering the aquisition of another vehicle from this manufacturer.... As they say in spanish: create your fame and go to sleep... Acura.

Dude, it sounds like either your car has a bad paint job from the factory or the dealer repainted it for some reason. I would raise some hell over this one.

I agree that the paint on ALL manufacturers suck nowadays. The reason for this is the paint they use now has to meet all sorts of EPA and other standards and codes, thus reducing the strength of the paint.

Angry Louzy Paint

My NBP 2002 TLS was out of the garage for a few days, and during that time, there was a little rain. Since it was in July, the sun came out and dried the little water beads, acting like a lens, causing permanant damage to the paint. The result looks just like water spots, but are etched into the surface of the paint. I've had several black cars in the past, and never had a problem this serious. That was the only time the car was out in the rain.

The dealer was willing to repaint the hood and trunk(the worst areas of the car), but I refused. Since they wanted to keep me happy(with them, not the paint), they were willing to give me almost anything I wanted instead of the paint job. Well....I decided that a Comptech Exhaust would be nice....so that's what I asked for...and received. Now, the dealer didn't have to give me anything except warranty work, but they were willing to do whatever it took to keep me happy. Nice dealer...nice service. BTW...the dealer is Jones Acura, in Lancaster PA. Service Mgr. is Allan. Great bunch of guys!

Someone hit my rear bumper earlier this year, took it to a paint shop. Tech there told me the factory paint job is just cr@p. It was such a small hit but the darned paint started to spider web and peel off too easily. New paint job seems much nicer and smoother than the factory one now.

Hey stiletto....I've had the same dealings with the rep..Rick (my guy was Rick Kahl) from california. I had paint chips all over the car. 10 to be exact. My car was 2 DAYS OLD with 57 miles on it. I got it with 19 miles. The dealer gave me a bunch of crap about they already sent registration in, so they can't swap the car, and assured me their fix it (paint) man would make it flawless. Well their fix it man can't mix paint color at all. Now the chips are filled and smoothed, but the WRONG SHADE. I have worked in body shops.....I know it is very hard to get a metallic to match. So now it is screwed. I got acura involved, they wanted to repaint my hood and trunk which was where all the chips were. At the time I was thinking it was shipping damage. I absolutely refused to have a RE-PAINTED hood and trunk on a car with 57 miles on it. Talk about poor re-sale..... "no really man, it wasn't in a wreck, I just painted a $33,000 car for some chips". BUT Rick also said a re-paint....even from the acura dealership, would VOID acura's corrosion protection warranty. I told them to give me the money they would have spent on the paint job. They finally did...all $500 of it...whoo-hoo. Those cock suckers!! Man I'm getting pissed off all over again. Anyhow since then I have found more paint defects...some spiderwebbing, dirt in paint, and crazing (cracking/distortion of paint layer) Rick gave me some shiit about bee pollen causing crazing....BEE POLLEN...give me a break! They just won't admit to having a crappy paint job!!

Mercedes has the best factory paint jobs. They use a special process involving water-based paint and a curing process.
I used to sell them, and am a product knowledge "specialist".
I have never seen a factory paint job beat theirs to date.
