Painting pillar question...

This is more of a question on what technique is suggested. I already know the basics on the prep work needed. My question is what do you guys suggest as for painting. Should I lay the pillars on a flat surface and shoot, or should I hang the pillars on something and spray them while they are suspended in the air. I just want to get a good even coverage and also avoid dust and dirt as much as possible..
