painting my engine

I'm going to paint my engine cover, and I was wondering what kind of paint am i suppose to use? I got some latex paint, but that didn't work, so i'm going to return it tomorrow. I was thinking about spray paint....will that look ok?

Most folks here, have sanded the cover first, and used high temp paint that can take at least 500 degrees.

regular spray paint will do for the plastic engine covers, because if the underhood temps even got close to 550 degrees, that plastic would melt right off, headers, exhausts, and y pipe might get that hot, but usually underhood temps stay well below 200 degrees...

Usually people sand it first to get a nice smooth feel to it...and to get the paint to stick. You should use Primer first before you paint it. And sanding is easy.....you just get something called....sandpaper... :p Start with the smaller numbers..which is ruff...then use 1000 or 2000 grit for final sanding. High Temp paint? Is that really necessary to use it? I was thinking of using the normal paint. I have painted a few stuff on the exterior near the engine..and it appears to hold up well. *shrug*
