Question Painting Brake Caliphers

I want to paint my brake caliphers...but I wanted to know what kind of paint should we use? is High temp 1200 degrees paint good enough or do I have to get brake paint caliphers? like the one folia tec makes?

Anything you can do aside from paint them to keep them looking new and shiny? Any kind of cleaner/restorer/protector?

I used PlastiKote spray paint that reads "Brake Caliper Paint" and is meant especially for that application. I guess it can withstand the high heat that brake components go through. It turned out pretty well. Too bad all I had was the factory jack. I had to jack up one wheel at a time and paint them individually and wait for them to dry before moving on to the next one.

The high heat paint is good, but it might fade over time. The Foliatec (suppose to) keep the shine going. and much easier to paint without taking out the caliper.

Get me a blue kit while you at it would ya .. Joey or Binh .... Got it .... 1 kit only alright ... not 1 kit from each of you lolz .. Binh, if you get it, ask Joey for the expense

I have a gold car, and was thinking of red paint on the calipers. I was thinking it would stand out that way. Does anyone have any better suggestions for color?

Joey and I went to a few stores today looking for the paint. Believe it or not, some guy at a shop said that the Foliatech paint will chip. How does he know? He said a few of his customers used it and it started chipping. So we ended up buying some high heat paint. Will try it out this weekend.

BTW Kenny, we bought 2 cans so far.

P.S
For people that already painted their calipers. Which way is better.........spraying the paint or brushing it on?????

I've always wanted to do this when I first bought my car but kept on being flammed for making my car rice. The only reason why I never actually did it though was that I wanted to do it right and totally disassemble the calipers from the wheel rather then painting it on the spot. Aren't you guys worried about it not looking professional to the point were you might have paint spots in areas where you werent meant to paint?

I guess u can throw on a layer of high heat clear coat paint...if u can find it...I couldn't...

I had this done on my last car a 91 Legend...it's been 3 years since and it was regular high heat paint and it has not since faded and is still looking good if the caliphers are clean.

I asked a few of my friends who have painted theirs and they just said to cover up the areas around the calipher and spray...if u get it on the rotor it's ok...it will come off after u use the brakes a few times...

Cool, looks ok...I can't really see it too well...I can't for the life of me understand why people would pay $70 just for fancy calipher paint...it's paint...a $5 can of hi-temp paint will do the same thing in the end...

It's CALIPER, Joey, not calipher.
By the way, I would also suggest a good sanding and cleaning before painting them. I would sand just to make sure but it is not entirely necessary. However, you should definitely clean them first. Primer isn't a bad idea either.

Make sure you take plenty of pics. What color are you going to use?

Oh yeah, did you get that special metalic sanding paper? How much was it?

Me and Binh got hi-temp blue 1200 degrees...my brakes aren't that dirty, Park Ave Acura cleaned it nicely for me today...
what metallic sanding paper? didn't even know that existed? Home depot?

What did you get, regular sanding paper? There is metallic sanding paper out there, I would suggest home depot or any other hardware store. However, I don't think it is a vitally important detail. I think it was TL Daddy that didn't sand his calipers at all and he has had no problems with his paint coming off or anything.

I didn't know you had them powder coated, I thought you painted them yourself that is why I asked.

How much for the powder coating job?
