Owners of 2003 TL-S

I am currently in the middle of a "search" to find out if any owners of 2003 TL-S whose VIN ID # are outside of the affected Transmission problem range (my VIN is outside of the problem range) experienced any problems with their transmission(I.e had it repaired, received recall, etc). I drive roughly around 85 miles a day on the TL-S and my wife and I decided to switch off cars on a weekly basis to conserve miles on the TL-S since my wife's commute is only13 miles. I am concerned for her safety since she will be driving the TL-S. My 03 Satin Silver Metallic TL-S has a build date of Dec 2002 and was purchased in April 2003. On the Acura Owners website, it shows no recalls of any kind so far. I apologize for yet "another transmission post" but any answers would be greatly appreciated and thanks to all in advance.

I too have a 2003 SSM TLS purchased in Jan of '03. I'll check my build date and post back. Do you know the build date ranges of the cars affected??

Here is the link.

The bulletin is dated August 2003. I called Acura to verify and confirmed that my VIN was outside of the problem range.

Don't be worried, I've replaced a couple on 2003's that were outside the VIN range. It's obviously a problem and it obviously hasn't been fixed considering some TL/CL's have had more than 1 trans. replaced.

Hey gagetrol, thanks for the range info. Looks like mine is an early model and is in scope for the SB range. Oh well, lets hope I beat the odds.

My D5 light started flashing yesterday and is outside the range on the service bulleting. Luckily, I have an appointment on Friday that was previously scheduled.

2003 TL-S
Build Date: 06/02
Purchased: 07/02
Miles: 18k

No major problems yet, but my transmission does shift rather hard into 4th gear when downshifting from 5th. Not the "normal" 3rd gear clutch pack problem, but we'll see. I'm not worrying about it ... if it does go then at least I've got the warranty for now.

You mean I should be worried, since you have replaced 2003 models that were outside of the problematic VIN range...(Those with VIN numbers that are not supposed to have any transmission problems).

While going from 3rd > 4th..I noticed my car lose power. So I look down at my rpm gauge and see that it revved all the way up to 2800-2900 rpm (I usually drive below 2000 rpm)..then it slightly jerked into 4th.

think we are all flocked, no matter when they were built. Any news when they are going to come out with a revised tranny instead of these damn patch trannys?

Apparently, it seems that VIN numbers outside the probematic VIN range are affected as well. Guess we are all in for it sooner or later. It's not "if" our transmissions will fail, it's more like "when" it will fail, be it 15,000 miles or 45,000 miles, in one year or after four years. Hope no one will get injured or killed directly/indirectly as a result of transmission failure. I like my Acura, and have mostly owned Hondas till now. Until Honda gets it all together like way back when, like the Legend years or gets it better, I will most likely not buy another Honda automobile product.......

I'm outside the range, no problems at 14K miles. Keep in mind that some transmissions could have problems unrelated to this issue.

2003 VIN's less than 19061 are covered under the extended. My VIN is in the 41K range so I'm not (build 10/2002). 28K miles and no problems. Running a B&M 24k GVW tranny cooler w/ Amzoil Synthetic and it shifts great so far.
