Outside Door Frame "Film" peeling
Hey guys. I wondered if anyone else has this problem. I have a '99 Black TL and I noticed, almost a year after I got the car, that "film" that is around the oustide of the car, next to the windows on the door frames, has started to chip and look windblown.
A) Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
B) Has it happened to you?
C) What the heck do I do about it?
Acura said they "replaced" it once, but they brought in a guy from Chicago to look at it since my local dealership said they've never seen anything like it.
Tell me your thoughts, or lack their of.

Go talk to your dealer about it. It's a known problem that the black tape peels off. I took mine in for one spot and they removed all of the tape and applied gloss black paint, no more problems.

I had mine replaced by the dealer also last year on my TL-S. Now the problem is happening again. I'm waiting until the dealer has a loaner car available since last time they had the car for 3 days to replace the black tape.

Like the others said, this is a known problem and it will be fixed under warranty. However, one of the Acura techs that used to frequent this board said that it is a long, laborous process to fix so expect to be without your car for at least a full day, possibly up to three days. Don't expect to drive in and wait while the work is done.

Do we know what causes this?
Maybe it's 'cuz we drive our cars so fast...

The only thing I can think of to cause it is that they were compressing and stertching the tape when it wasn't hot and/or pliable enough to move the way they wanted or they just reached the overall physical elastamer limits of the material.
Mine is doing too just a little on a concave curve.

I have an 03" and it's already happening to mine, it's getting wrinkled. I just dropped mine off this morning to have all of the squeaks and rattles fixed and totally forgot about that. I guess on my next oil change I'll have them change it. I'm not to excited about driving this RSX loaner car, it feels horrible. I've got to have my ride back for the weekend.

keep in mind all ,as posted above the process of either reappling tape or doing it right by painting it take time at a body shop.1-2 days.issues to look out for would be; overspray on car, rubber window seals adjusted right, ect.
