So are you saying that when you open the cupholder door, there is just an empty box shaped area underneath? There aren't two holes to place your cups in? If so, then yeah you are missing the insert, which explains why you hate the "cupholder".

I bet you that you never have a Volvo. If you do, you probably gone through two cup holders for $80 each, wholesale.

Then it sounds like you dont have the insert. Head down to the dealer and pick one up. They are like 5 bucks

That is exactly what I want to do. Hey Kris could you post a pic of what this looks like in your car.

Did you really think this was everything? i mean, the 99-01 sucks but that is just ridiculous. I'm gonna get a 02-03 from the dealer.

I didn't know what to expect. I bought the car used, and didn't know anything about the car before that. So I didn't know if it was supposed to be like that or not. I actually thought it was supposed to be like that cuz it looked like they made an effort so that the bottom of the cup could sit all the way down as you can see in the cup holder that's closer to the shifter.

I probably would've thought the same thing if I was in your situation. Hell, I found a couple of things that were missing in my 2000 TL when I got my 2003. I never would've even known they were supposed to be there.

I used to tell the staff at some places "leave an inch off the top" but I don't think they spoke English well enough to know what that meant (or maybe their native country was in centimeters). Then I tried telling them to put a medium portion into a large cup.

But after one messy spill, I decided no more. You'd be amazed how far 3 oz of coffee can go around the seat, armrest, console, etc. It was cheaper to buy a 6-pack of sodas and keep instant coffee at work. (Of course, the taste isn't as good, but I'm saving some bucks, and mainly the aggravation of dealing with a future spill!)
Take a sip before you put it in the cupholder, Problem solved!

Haha, the picture makes me laugh. You are definitely missing the insert, no wonder you said our cup holder sux. I was thinking it is actually not that bad, at least it doesnt spill my drinks.

^^^

i just went and got mine yesterday but they didn't have it in stock so it'll be here tuesday. $7.35.

i also got some new bumper clips because i broke some when installing my CAI the other day. they are screw in, so no more breaking clips with the flat tip screwdriver method. just unscrew and the clamp lets go from inside and they just fall out. drawback... $4.62/each.

Personally i hate those worse than out clips. (which come out easy with a clip tool) Those just spin in place when they are older and time to remove

Hey Kris do you plan on leaving that empty space there on your cupholder, or are you going to fill it with something i.e., blank plug, pez dispenser....

i cant find a plug that fits, and i dont feel like spending 40 bucks or so for a seat heater button that will do nothing just to fill the hole. Im sure when it buggs me enough ill do something.

Hey Kris,
Have you try using that cover pieces that next to TCS/Cruise Button? If it fit go for the upgrade button off 02-03 TL an use it for a switch or bypass button. I'm not sure what that 02-03 button is call I think it's for (foglight) (I have 99)
I bought that piece for $10 for my Navi/DVD converter switch. Better look then the cover panel piece.

OK, I bought one of the 2002-2003 cup holder inserts from my local Acura dealer to replace the stock insert from my 1999 TL.

It was $4.94 + tax. Good Deal! Thanks for that tip.
