Option for tinting the dot matrix
I finally got my windows tinted, and the local shop told me to come back in a couple weeks and they would paint the dot matrix. I know some of you guys paint, or use tape. I was wondering if anyone tried using tint spray? Is the spray hard to put on evenly without streaking? I would think this would look pretty good if it can be done evenly.

why didn't they tint over the dot matrix? i got mine tinted over the dot matrix...and it doesn't bubble. The procedure that they were suppose to take was...get a razor blade and start scratching off the top layer of the dot matrix, this will make the tint stick to the tint and not bubble. Not all tint shops know about this step..and they will either not tint it they won't promise that it won't bubble if they do.

They said they'd tint over it if I wanted, but wouldn't guarantee it not to bubble. Said it would leave little silver rings around each dot when it dried. He even went as far as saying no tinter in the world would try to tint over a dot matrix that wide
I heard painting or using the vinyl tape looked pretty good, so I didn't feel like arguing with the installer. I don't mind them painting it, cause I went pretty dark with 22%, just thought using tint spray might look better. Now that I think about it, maybe they do use tint spray. I just assumed they used black paint. I guess I'll have to give them a call tomorrow......

The guy who tinted my windows put a black strip of vinyl over the dot matrix. It came out awesome and looks factory. There's no bubbling or anything since it's more of a decal. On my CL, the guy sanded the matrix down and tinted over it, but there was some slight bubbling. The vinyl is definitely better and came out sweet!!

i got mine tinted last week and they did NOT tint over the dot matrix. it looks fine, you cant really tell, unless you look up close, because the tint ( 35% ) is the same shade as the dot matrix.

"typeSR2" i got it done at Autotec...they do ALL the tinting and alarms for Toyota of Carson...they are located directly across the street to Toyota of Carson. I know them, they did all 5 windows for around $120-$130 i don't remember how much. They will gurrante that it won't bubble if they do it over the dot matrix.
Talk to Kim or Tam...tell them you know Minh...the guy with the white Acura TL sent you.

Hey 69TL, which shop did you go to? I went to Alexia's, cause that was what was recommended when I called around some dealers and audio shops, but I wasn't too impressed with their work. I got a couple small bubbles, a couple peices of grit under the tint, and my friend got a bubble too. Is it worth the trouble to complain and have them redo it? They're only noticeable under close inspection.

The new place I just went to for my TL-S had a similar clause in it.

I live in memphis, tn.
The place you want to go to is
Auto Trim Design
Every single car ive ever had tinted, ive taken here. They are the ONLY place in Memphis that i know of that can and does do ONE PIECE back windshields. Most places will cut the tint in 2 to 3 strips to get it to lay right.
Ill try to post up some pictures when i get them. And by the way, The tint guy at Auto Trim Design just tinted straight over the dot matrix with no problems. No bubble so far. And they have a lifetime warranty on the tint also.
